Ice melting
in Griffin
Driving conditions generally
were safe in the Griffin area
today as slowly rising tem
peratures melted a thin coating
of ice which had covered the
community.
The hard freeze forecast late
yesterday for last night did not
come off. The thin coating of ice
which covered trees and power
lines began to slip to the ground
early this morning.
A slight drizzle marked the
weather picture in Griffin this
morning. More cold weather
was predicted for tonight and
cloudy weather was forecast for
tomorrow.

The storm system which
belted the southland with
roadblocking snow and tornado
winds yesterday began its slow
journey out to sea today,
leaving layers of frozen slush
behind.
Travellers’ warnings
remained in effect for most of
North Georgia and the interior
sections of the Carolinas as
some light snow, sleet and
freezing rain added to the
confusion caused Friday by the
early season storm.
“This has really caused a
mess,” a utility spokesman in
Columbia, S.C. said. Power
failures were reported in
Columbia late yesterday as ice
formed on big trees, causing
them to topple over on power
lines.
The snows stranded motorists
in Haywood County, N.C., and
slowed a life and death highway
patrol relay of 34 units of a rare
blood type to a man suffering
from hemophilia in Asheville,
