The site of the original mill
was Experiment and is today
the firm’s number one plant.
The first officers were: W. J.
Kincaid, president; S. Grant
land, vice president; and James
Brawner, treasurer.
The Kincaid Manufacturing
Co. prospered from the start.
New additions were added to
the mill. It also acquired
Cherokee Mills which was
located in East Griffin. That
firm was originally built in 1907
as a blanket factory.
In 1899 the Spalding Cotton
Mills were built in East Griffin.
It later became Kincaid’s plant
number two.
Shortly afterwards (1902) the
Boyd-Mangham Manufacturing
Co. was started. The plant was
located next to Spalding Cotton
Mills. It later became Kincaid’s
plant number three.
Then in 1911 the Spalding
Cotton Mills merged and formed
Georgia Cotton Mills.
This corporation continued to
operate until 1924 when they
bought the Kincaid Manufac
turing Co. and the Cherokee
Mills. Thus the Georgia-Kincaid
Mills were chartered, taking
their name from the two former

This is a post card scene of Hill at Taylor Street. Card mailed in 1917 (1c postage). The center
parks were wider then but there still was plenty of room for two-way traffic on each side of the
park.
On the corner was Crouch’s Men’s Store, next to it our family shoe store, dry goods store, ready
to wear and a whole floor devoted to millinery. Immediately behind the men’s clothing store -
(where the entrance to the Professional building is now) was our grocery store.
We no longer are in men’s wear or groceries but we’re expanded our fashion departments to
better serve you and promise to continue to strive to serve you better
