Patience pays off
NEW YORK (UPI)-When
Nelson Goff ignored his apart
ment eviction notice, landlord
put the pressure on. Not only
were his heat, electricity, hot
water and postal service
discontinued, but even the toilet
seat was removed.
Emotionally distressed, but
determined to keep his Manhat
tan apartment, Goff, 23, sought
psychiatric help. And he got a
lawyer, too.
On Tuesday, Goff was award
ed SIO,OOO damages by state
Supreme Court Justice George
Starke. The judge ruled that
the landlord, A.I.H. Develop
ment Corp., was “wanton and
malicious” in its efforts to
remove the tenant.
