student to re-establish the fundamentals of
mathematics and to develop other
mathematical skills that may be required
to perform certain tasks in his specific
trade or technological field.

Communications Skills —Communication
Skills is designed to develop effective
{communication necessary in the world of
{work. It includes reading, writing,
{speaking, and listening. Emphasis is
placed on study skills at the beginning of
the course.

Secretarial Science
The Secretarial Science major is a one-year program in the
Business Education Department It emphasizes planned
learning activities which include a combination of courses
and practical experiences concerned with making, classify
ing, and filing records, including written communications.
Career objectives are identified with a variety of occupation
al groups and specializations such as; executive administra
tive secretaries, secretaries, stenographers, and other steno
graphic, secretarial, and related occupations.

Learning, Earning, Education Program
Length Os Course: One Quarter
This program is especially
designed to provide those stu
dents who want to prepare for a
job but do not qualify for any of
the school’s regular programs
because (a) they do not meet
the basic educational require
ments for their vocational
choice, (b) they are uncertain
as to what vocational endeavor
would be best for them, or (c)
they cannot or do not want to
spend over one quarter in pre
paring for a job.
The program is divided into
four phases. First, basic educa
tion improvement in com
munication and computation
skills. Second is orientation to
foe work! of work with em
phasis on attitude development
Clerical
The Clerical major is a one-year program in the Business
Education Department. The clerical program emphasizes
planned learning experiences which include a combination of
courses and practical experiences concerned with the re
cording and retrieval of data; including classifying, sorttag,
filing, correspondence, records, and other data. Career ob
jectives are identified with a variety of occupational groups
and specializations, such as office machine operators, file
clerks, and general office clerks.

The third phase is devoted to
the development of basic voca
tional knowledge and skills in a
broad occupational job cluster.
The fourth phase is (faring the
last six weeks. The teacher
coordinator assists the student
in locating a job where he may
further his development by on
the-job training for four hours
per day.
The student returns to the
school four hours a day to con
tinue his basic education class
es. There is no guarantee of em
ployment by this course. The
teacher coordinator is only res
ponsible for assisting in locating
a training job.
