Jane Darsey
Being clerk and secretary at the £
Spalding Sheriff’s Department is, in itself, £
a full-time job. But Jane Darsey has a £
husband and three children and still finds £
time to be very active in church work. g
Her husband, William N. (Billy), is £
district supervisor of the State Narcotics :•:■
Squad with headquarters in Atlanta. Their £
children are Mary Jo, 11, Novin, 10, and £
Winnie, 8. They live in Sunny Side. Jane, g
whose hobby is sewing, makes most of the
clothes for herself and the children. She £
likes to cook and spends a lot of time £
canning during the summer. £
The Darseys are members of the Sunny £
Side United Methodist Church where Jane :g
is president of the Woman’s Society of £
Christian Service. She also sings in the £
church choir and works with a youth £
group. £
She is past matron of Liberty Chapter of
the Order of Eastern Star and is a member :$
of the Beaverbrook Elementary School £
PTA. £
Jane has been working at the Sheriffs g
I office for about four years. She wears a
lady’s deputy uniform and helps take care £
of all the Department records. An expert £
typist, she also is adept at taking dictation £
on case reports of the Sheriff and deputies. g
She takes statements from suspects and
acts as a matron to the women prisoners. g
She accompanies them to and from court £
and sometimes rides with juveniles to out £
of town detention homes. £
Jane is a native of Pike County. She £
graduated from high school there and has g
worked with Griffin Industries and in the £
i registrar’s office at the Spalding County g
Courthouse. £
