nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Miss Patricia Dianne
English, to Mr. Thomas Matt
hew Wagner, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Matthew Henry Wagner of
Rome.
Miss English is the grand
daughter of Mrs. Seaborn
Lumpkin Akins and the late Mr.
Akins of Griffin. Her paternal
grandparents are the late Mr.
and Mrs. Benjamin Turner
English of Zebulon.
The bride-elect is a 1968 honor
graduate of Pike County High
School in Zebulon. She is a
graduating senior at the
University of Georgia School of
Home Economics where she is a
dean’s list student in early
childhood education. She will
receive a Bachelor of Science
degree in home economics in
June.
Mr. Wagner is the grandson of
Mrs. Edgar Joe Barton and the
late Mr. Barton of Rome. His
paternal grandparents are the
late Mr. and Mrs. Matthew
Henry Wagner Sr. of Middles
boro, Kentucky.
He graduated from West

Rome High School in Rome in
1968. Mr. Wagner is a graduat
ing senior at the University of
Georgia where he is a dean’s list
student in the Franklin College
of Arts and Sciences and will
receive a Bachelor of Arts de
gree in political science in June.
The wedding will be June 18 at
the Zebulon Baptist Church in
Zebulon.

Donnie and Scottie Johnson,
sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Johnson, celebrated their fourth
and second birthdays with a
party at their home, 832 West
Solomon street.
Cake, ice cream and punch
were served. Games were
played and party favors were
given.
Identical cakes were baked
and presented to the honorees
by Mrs. Wilbur Phillips. Pic
tures were taken by Mrs. Cheryl
Stewart.

Everette Bankston.
Miss Bankston received an
associate of arts degree from
Gordon Military College and a
B.S. degree in elementary
education from Georgia
Southern College, and has done
graduate work at the University
of Georgia in early childhood
education. She is presently
employed by the Griffin-Spald
ing County Board of Education.

Miss Dee Lynn Bankston
Mr. Kitchings is the grandson
of Mrs. Ruth Cole and Mrs. Olin
E. Kitchings Sr. and the late
Mr. Kitchings.
He received an associate of
arts degree from Gordon Mili
tary College and attended
Clemson University. After
having served four years in the
United States Air Force, he is
attending West Georgia
College.
The wedding will be solemniz
ed June 8 at the First Baptist
Church in Barnesville.

talks to
Griffin AA UW
Rep. Clayton Brown was the
guest speaker at the April
meeting of the Griffin Branch of
the Georgia Division of the
American Association of
University Women.
His subject was “Reviews
and Opinions of the last session
of the General Assembly”. A
question and answer period
followed.
Mrs. H. A. Phillips, program
chairman, introduced the
speaker.
The meeting was held in the
Parish House of St. George’s
Episcopal Church. Mrs. T. A.
Skelton Jr., president, presided.
The opening thought was “Let’s
Not Wait”.
Mrs. C. M. Smoak Jr. gave
the treasurer’s report. Mrs. E.
A. Nealy, fellowship chairman,
reported on the fellowships
endowment fund. Members
voted to make individual
contributions to the program.
Mrs. A. H. Caldwell, chair
man, announced that the annual
luncheon meeting will be held
May 6 at the Holiday Inn. An
interesting program is planned
and all members are urged to
attend.
Persons in the community
who are interested in becoming
members of AAUW are request
ed to contact local members for
further information.
A dessert course was served
during the social period.

April meet
The Senior Citizens met at the
Memorial Clubhouse for the
April meeting. Two films,
“Burch Gardens” and “Gift
Wrapping” were shown.
Lunch was prepared by Mrs.
Arthur Krepps and Mrs. Sam
Bunn. Mrs. Andrew Blake gave
the devotional.

was solemnized March 6 at
the home of the bride’s parents.
The Rev. C. B. Braddy of Crest
view Baptist Church performed
the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. James L. Smith and Mr.
Clarence W. Pendley. The
groom is the son of Mrs. Lillie
Blankenship and Mr. Luther
Blankenship.
Miss Verna Garner served as
matron of honor.
Mr. Ricky Bass was best
man.
A pink color scheme was used
throughout the home.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was held.
The bride’s table was covered
with pink satin overlaid with
white lace. A center arrange
ment of pink and white carna
tions and baby breath was used.
The three tiered wedding cake
was topped with a miniature
bride and groom.
