S.Viet troops push back commiesl
SAIGON (UPl)—South Viet
namese paratroopers flown into
action by helicopter today
drove Communist forces out of
the provincial capital of An Loc
60 miles north of Saigon and
pushed them back two miles,
military sources said.
The force of 1,000 elite
paratroopers was aided by
saturation bombing by 852 s
which broke up North Vietna
mese troop concentrations and
destroyed some of the tanks in
the Communist attack force,
the military sources said.
The paratroopers, part of
President Nguyen Van Thieu’s
presidential palace guard, were
part of the armored relief
column that had been stalled 18
miles below An Loc for four
days by intense Communist
artillery and mortar attacks.
Today they dambered aboard

all available American fighter

perhaps 30,000 more across the

The government-controlled
television station, in an unusual
news bulletin tonight, said
South Vietnamese forces have

Despite the victory and the
temporary halt to the fighting,
military experts doubted the

renewed assaults when the
North Vietnamese regroup and

away.
