Miss Karen Watts
marries Mr. Aired
The Second Baptist Church
was the scene Sunday, April 16,
for the marriage of Miss Karen
Runette Watts to Mr. Kenneth
Wayne Aired. The Rev. Hart
well E. Kennedy performed the
double ring ceremony at 3 pm.
The bride is the daughter of
the Rev. and Mrs. Robert H.
Watts of Louisville, Kentucky
and the groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. George H. Aired of
Forest Park.
The church was decorated
with a central arrangement of
shades of pink carnations and
pink tapers in the arched
candelabra. Garlands of box
wood were draped across the
choir rail and boxwood wreaths
hung over the doorways. Pink
bows accented both the
garlands and wreaths.
Mr. Robin Watts, brother of
the bride, and Mr. Carl Stewart
lit the candles.
Mrs. Patrick Sheppard, or
ganist, presented a program of
nuptial music.
Mr. James A. Cook, cousin of
the bride, presented a violin
solo, “Traumereii”, accompan
ied by Miss Nancy Waits on the
piano. Miss Waits, soloist, sang
“Each for the Other” and “The
Lord’s Prayer”.
Mr. George Aired, father of
the groom, served as best man.
Ushers were Mr. Bobby Hill,
Mr. Henry Miller, Mr. Carl
Stewart, all of Griffin, and Mr.
Robin Watts of Louisville, Ky.,
brother of the bride.
Matron of honor was Mrs.
Henry Miller Jr. of Griffin. She
wore a floor length gown of hot
pink, styled with an empire
waist with full chiffon sleeves.
Her headpiece was of a rose
design with illusion net attach
ed. Her flowers were a nosegay
of pink and white carnations.
She wore matching accessories.
Bridesmaids were attired
identically to the matron of
honor. They were Mrs. Ken

Buckles, Miss Renee Stewart,
and Miss Susan Murphy, all of
Griffin, and Miss Cathy Aired of
Forest Park, sister of the
groom.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a floor
length gown of bridal satin
overlaid with organza. The
empire bodice featured
scalloped lace around the waist
line with hand appliqued lace
around the mandarin neckline.
The full organza sleeves were
softly gathered at the cuffs with
covered buttons. Rows of ap
pliqued lace were placed
around the skirt. The full length
train of illusion net was at
tached to a lace cap matching
the dress. She carried a bouquet
of french carnations and lily of
the valley with streamers of
love knots and pearls placed
on a white Bible, a gift from the
groom.
Mrs. Watts, mother of the
bride, wore a floor length gown
of blue brocade with matching
accessories. Her corsage was
pink cymbidium orchids.
Mrs. Aired, mother of the
groom, wore a floor length gown
of lavender crepe with lace
bodice and sleeves. She wore
matching accessories. Her cor
sage was green cymbidium
orchids.
Mrs. James F. Cook, mater
nal grandmother of the bride,
wore a dress of lilac crepe. Her
corsage was white carnations.
Mrs. Norman H. Watts,
paternal grandmother of the
bride, wore a mint green dress
of bonded crepe. Her flowers
were white carnations.
Mrs. G. W. Aired, paternal
grandmother of the groom,
wore a light blue dress of
polyester crepe. Her flowers
were white carnations.
Mrs. Rollin Griffith, aunt of
the bride, kept the bride’s book
in the foyer of the church.
A reception was held im-
mediately following the cere
mony in the church fellowship
hall. Host and hostesses were
Mr. and Mrs. James R. Cook
and Mrs. W. C. Stewart.
The bride’s table was covered
with pink satin overlaid with
net. The bride’s cake, centered
on the table, was frosted with
pale pink icing with white roses
and miniature love birds and
sugar coated bells. The three
tiers were separated by grecian
columns and topped with a
miniature bride and groom in a
gazebo. Branched candelabra
flanked each end of the table. A
white wrought iron arch was
placed behind the table.
The groom’s table was cen
tered with a chocolate groom’s
cake, topped with fresh straw
berries. Wrought iron was used
throughout the table.
A silver punch bowl with
frozen strawberry ring was
used for punch. Nuts, mints and
cheesestraws were served also.
Mrs. Bobby Hill, sister of the
groom, kept the bride’s book at
the reception.
Serving at the reception were
Misses Debbie McSwain,
Debbie White and Brenda Hall,
Mrs. Rollin Griffith, Mrs.
James R. Cook and Mrs. Eddie
Johnson.
For going away, the bride
chose an outfit of purple knit
with matching accessories. She
wore the orchid lifted from her
bouquet.
After a short wedding trip,
Mr. and Mrs. Aired will reside
at 108 Peachtree Circle, N.E.,
Apt. 3 in Atlanta.
Prior to the wedding, the
following parties were held:
On March 19, a surprise
shower was given the couple by
the congregation of Hillgrove
Baptist Church in Guston,
Kentucky, of which the bride’s
father is pastor.
Mrs. Ken Buckles and Mrs. T.
L. Williams entertained with a
linen shower on March 21 in the
fellowship hall of Second
Baptist Church.
Mrs. Henry Miller Jr. and
Miss Susan Murphy entertained
with a kitchen shower March 28

Mrs. Kenneth Wayne Aired
at the home of Miss Murphy.
The Baptist Young Women of
Second Baptist Church
presented a white Bible to the
bride on April 2.
Mrs. Ray Jones, Mrs. W. C.
Stewart and Mrs. Reuben
Hitchcock gave the
bridesmaid’s luncheon April 15
at the home of Mrs. Jones on
Pineridge road.
The rehearsal dinner was
given by the groom’s parents at
Russell’s Restaurant.
Miss Diane Gilbert
marries Mr. Brown
The Mt. Carmel Road Baptist
Church was the scene Saturday,
April 15, at 8 o’clock for the
marriage of Miss Brenda Diane
Gilbert to Mr. Ronald Wayne
Brown. The double ring cere
mony was performed by the
Rev. Don Pye.
The bride is the daughter of
the Rev. and Mrs. M. S. Gilbert
of McDonough and the groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
Brown of Winterville, Ga.
Miss Debbie Kasberg, pianist,
and the Rev. Cal Davis, soloist,
presented a program of nuptial
music including the songs,
“Walk Hand In Hand” and “The
Wedding Prayer”.
The church was decorated
with a large fern shaped
arrangement of white glads,
white button pom pons, large
white mums and greenery
flanked on either side with two
gold shaped candelabra trees
consisting of nine white tapers
flanked with green fern trees.
The aisle cloth went down to the
prayer bench. A candle
arrangement of greenery was
placed on the organ and piano.
The family pews were marked
with white satin ribbons.
Mr. C. W. Brown served as his
son’s best man. Ushers were
Mr. Dwight Brown of Winter
ville, Ga., brother of the groom,
and Mr. Steve Berry of Hamp
ton. The ushers lit the candles.
Mrs. Imogene Thompson was
her sister's matron of honor.
She and the attendants wore
floor length yellow chiffon
gowns, featuring the high split
collar with Venise lace and
empire waist with a band of
satin, long full Bishop sleeves
and a flowing skirt. Their
headpieces were matching
organza petals with bouffant
French silk illusions. Their
shoes matched the dresses.
They carried spring baskets
filled with pastel flowers.
. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Linda
Brown of Winterville, sister-in
law of the groom, and Mrs.
Darlene Tuggle of Stockbridge.
The attendants wore an opal
necklace, a gift from the bride.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore an A-line
floor length satapeau bridal
gown featuring the nehru collar,
long full Bishop sleeves with a
cuff and matching Venise lace.
The empire waist had a panel of
Venise lace and seed pearls.
The gown was styled with a
matching full chapel length
detachable train. She wore a
bouffant French silk illusion
veil featuring the satin petals
and chantilly lace leaves. Her
jewelry was a gold bangle
bracelet, a gift from the groom.
The bride carried a modified
cascade bouquet of white
carnations and gyp and in the
center was a large white cap
pleya orchid with a yellow
throat.
At the conclusion of the cere
mony, the Rev. Cal Davis, solo
ist, sang “The Wedding
Prayer”, while the couple
kneeled at the prayer bench.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Gilbert chose a mint green
knit suit with matching ac
cessories. Her corsage was a
green cymbidium orchid.
Mrs. Brown, mother of the
groom, wore a pink knit dress
with matching accessories. She
wore a pink cymbidium orchid.
Following the wedding, a
reception was held in the church
fellowship hall.
The bride’s table was covered
with a light yellow linen cloth
overlaid with white lace. A
yellow memory candle was
placed on a silver tray which
held miniature rice bags.
The punch table was covered
with a white linen cloth with
lace inserts and edging. A

Crestview
Circle meets
The WMU Circle Two of
Crestview Baptist Church met
at the home of Mrs. Gussie
Norton for the April meeting.
Mrs. Sara Higgins presided.
During the business session,
the group discussed fixing lunch
for the missionaries, who are
home on leave, May 10 at Crest
view Baptist Church.
Mrs. Annie Terrell read the
prayer calendar and gave the
prayer for missionaries.
Mrs. Flora Ogletree was in
charge of the program,
“Sharing Christian Love with
Others”.
Following the meeting, re
freshments were served to the
seven members present.

Mrs. Ronald Wayne Brown

center of the table. The four
tiered wedding cake was topped
with a cascade of yellow roses
and was placed on one end of the
table. The two lower layers
separated by Grecian columns
featured a miniature bride and
groom. Pastel shades of butter
mints and nuts were served.
The crystal punch bowl was
surrounded by white pom pons,
champagne carnations and gyp
embedded in leather leaf ferns
and was placed on the opposite
end of the table.
Serving at the reception were
Mrs. Thelma Davis and Mrs.
Patricia Clotfelter.
Miss Donna Whitley kept the
bride’s book.
For a wedding trip to Montego
Bay, Jamica, the bride chose a
light blue knit dress with long
sleeves and a matching vest.
She wore the orchid lifted from
her bouquet.
Prior to the wedding, parties
were held as follows:
A linen shower was given by
Mrs. Pam Bulkles, Mrs.
Margarett Williams and Miss
Donna Whitley. Mrs. Carolyn
Pilcher entertained with a
lingerie shower. Mrs. Thelma
Davis, Mrs. Lillian Mullinax
and Miss Debbie Kasberg were
hostesses to a miscellaneous
shower.
The bridal party was enter
tained by the groom’s parents
at Jackson’s Restaurant follow
ing the rehearsal.
