DEAR POLLY—Whenever shirts with a
button-down collar are too tight in the
chest or the sleeves are too short, I
.make dickeys out of them. I cut the
collar out with extra material to the
shoulders and down as far as needed in
the front and back. I hem the edges
and wear these under sweaters.—

DEAR POLLY—My pointer concerns
"tacking* those baby quilts some of
you may be making. After marking four
inch squares with a pencil I set my sew
ing machine button-holer to bar tack
and do the tacking with this. This
makes a good sturdy tack that can be
done very quickly.—MAßlE

DEAR POLLY—When cWldren'sstuffed
animals no longer take well to soap and
water cleaning, cover them with a thick
layer of starch. After it is thoroughly
dry remove the starch with a very stiff
brush. Dirt and grease will come right
off with it.—MRS. R. M.
•
DEAR POLLY—My family all love
cheese sandwiches and cheeseburgers,
so I buy the ready sliced three-pound
loaves of cheese. To keep it conven
iently unwrapped and yet protected
from drying out I drop the loaf, open
end first, into a clean half gallon waxed
milk carton and close the carton top
securely. Even my youngest can help
himself and not be scolded for letting
the cheese dry out. —MRS. G. T. K.

DEAR POLLY—Since I fitted the blan

DEAR POLLY—I live in an apartment
and no matter how carefully I opened
the bedroom closet's sliding doors, they
were apt to hit the wall. I cut two strips
of sponge, each about Ixl% inches,
one for each door, and glued them to
the edges of the doors that hit the door
jambs. Paraffin wax put on the runs
where the door slides makes it slide
easier, too.—MRS. M. T.

of their bathing caps.—F. W.

DEAR POLLY—I save all my large gro
cery bags. There are many uses I have
found. One is to cut them open so they
lay flat and use them to wrap packages
to be mailed.—GEßl
