The marriage of Miss Linda
Diane Reddick to Mr. Raymond
Harold McDermid Jr. was
solemnized September 9 at 8
p.m. at the First Methodist
Church in Valdosta, Ga. The
Rev. James C. Kenney per
formed the double ring cere
mony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Haynes M.
Reddick of Valdosta. The groom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Harold McDermid Sr.
of Griffin.
Mrs. James Brown, organist,
and Miss Teresa Griffis, soloist,
presented a program of wed
ding music including the songs,
“We’ve Only Just Begun”, “I’ll
Walk With God”, and “The

the bride, served as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were
Rebecca Dianne McDermid of
Griffin, sister of the groom;
Kathryn Ann Blanton of
Valdosta, Pamela Lea Hamlet
of Atlanta, Bonnie Gerlock
Hatcher of Valdosta, cousin of
the bride; Sheryl Lynn Joiner
and Teresa Elaine Joiner of
Macon, cousins of the bride;
and Elizabeth Irene Jones of
Griffin.
The bride was given in marri
age by her father. She wore a
designers cathedral silhouette
of snowflake white English net.
The empire bodice was styled
with a shaped Duchess neckline
and long tapered sleeves. The
skirt was appliqued with pearl
embroidered alencon lace atop
a skirting of snowflake white
silk organdy rowed with pearl
embroidered alencon lace
round the hemline. The gown
featured a full court train,
which fell from a watteau back.
Her full length imported silk
illusion veil was attached to a
modified Swedish toque of
embroidered alencon petals,
highlighted with French bridal
pearls. She carried a cascade of
valley lilies, snowsong roses,
stephanotis and white orchids.
Following the wedding, a
reception was held in the social
hall of the church.
The bride’s table was
decorated with burning tapers
in a silver candelabra and the
bride’s bouquet. The two tiered
white cake was supported with
sugar spun columns and was
topped with sugar spun flowers,
similar to the bride’s flowers.
The punch table held a crystal
punch bowl and silver punch
bowl. The table was decorated
with burning white tapers and
spring flowers.
The groom’s cake was a
chocolate pound cake decorated
with crystal top hat.
A central floor arrangement
consisted of a lighted water fall
with greenery.
The bride’s register book
table was decorated with spring
flowers, white tapers and a
white plume pen.
For a wedding trip to the
Bahamas, the bride wore a
black and white empire dress of
double knit. She wore black ac
cessories and the orchids lifted
from her bridal bouquet.
Mr. McDermid is employed
as a security aide with Gov.
Jimmy Carter.
Prior to the wedding, the
bridesmaid luncheon was held
Sept. 9 by Mrs. Bennett Owens
and Miss Beth Jones.
The rehearsal dinner was
given by Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond H. McDermid Sr. at
the Sheraton Inn in Valdosta
Sept. 8.
Gleaners
Class meets
The Gleaners Sunday School
Class of Faith Baptist Church
met at the home of the teacher,
Mrs. Geneva Garrett, for the
September meeting.
Mrs. Mary Young, president,
opened the meeting with
prayer. The devotional was
given by Mrs. Myrtle Jones.
Mrs. Marjoree Horton gave
the names of the officers for the
coming year selected by the
nominating committee, Mrs.
Marjoree Horton, Mrs. Clarice
Chalkely and Mrs. Ethel Slade.
Officers for the year are as
follows:
President, Mrs. Marjoree
Horton; vice president, Mrs.
Lena Mae Jones; secretary,
Mrs. Margie Gatlin; Mrs. Ethel
Slade, treasurer; Mrs. Verna
Cooper, scripture reader; Mrs.
Mary Young, publicity chair

Mrs. Ruth Hudgins, social com
mittee.
The meeting was closed with
prayer by Mrs. Lena Mae
Jones.
Mrs. Margie Love was
welcomed as a new member.
Fourteen members and one
visitor, Miss Sandra Jones,
were present.

Miss Amanda Jane Forrester
became the bride of Mr.
Frankie Edward Taylor at the
DeVotie Baptist Church Sun
day, August 20. The Rev. A. C.
Stephens performed the double
ring ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Burel D.
Forrester Sr. of Griffin and the
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Perkins of Griffin and
the late Mr. Frank Taylor of
Murphy, N.C.
The church was decorated
with a thirty-five branch candle
tree and two spirals each
holding fourteen candles. Two
summer baskets filled with
mixed flowers, Talisman
gladioli, white and yellow
carnations, bronze daisy mums,
yellow pom pons and baby
breath, were used on each side
of the candle tree. Each basket
had a large white and talisman
ribbon. Four fern balls were
used between the spirals and
candle tree.
Mrs. Eddie Freeman, or
ganist and cousin of the bride,
and Miss Clydene Whitted and
Miss Debra Grant of Griffin
presented a program of nuptial
music including the songs,
“More”, “We’ll Walk With
God” and “The Wedding
Prayer”.
The bride entered with her
father, who gave her in marri
age. She wore a gown of white
silk organza. The Juliette style
sleeves were trimmed in
crocheted lace and pearls. The
full length gown featured lace
appliques on an A-line skirt and
sheer illusion yoke. Lace ac
cented with pearls adorned the
waistline. She chose a full
length veil of silk illusion at
tached to a headpiece of lace
petals accented with iridescents
and pearls. Her bouquet was
placed on a white Bible, given to
her by the Acteens of DeVotie
Baptist Church. The bouquet
consisted of trenched white
carnations and stephanotis
centered with a white orchid
with streamers of ribbon and
lily of the valley.
Miss Linda Standard of
Griffin was maid of honor. Mrs.
Leonard B. Peeples of Fayette
ville, sister of the bride, was
matron of honor. Their dresses
of apricot chiffon were made on
empire lines with white lace
bodices and long sleeves with
wide white lace cuffs. They
chose white picture hats with
apricot ribbon streamers. They
carried summer baskets of
mixed flowers consisting of
white and yellow carnations,
bronze daisy mums, yellow pom
pons and baby breath. The two
honor attendants’ baskets had
large white bows.
Miss Sheila Padgett of
Griffin, sister of the groom and
Mrs. Ronnie Evans of Griffin
were bridesmaids. Miss Lynn
Perkins, sister of the groom,
was junior bridesmaid. Their
gowns and flowers were
identical to the honor at
tendants.
Little Miss Sonya Harrelson
of Griffin was flower girl. Her
dress was identical to the honor
attendants. She carried a
basket of mixed flowers with a
white ribbon on the basket.
Mr. Leonard B. Peeples of
Fayetteville, brother-in-law of
the bride, was best man. Usher
groomsmen were Mr. Charles
Kenerly, Mr. Ronnie Evans and
Mr. Robert McKoy, all of
Griffin. Junior groomsman and
candlelighter was Burel
Forrester Jr. of Griffin, brother
of the bride.
Master Bobby Adams of
Griffin was ring bearer.
The bride’s mother chose a
dress of pineapple silk worsted
made on A lines with long
sleeves of chiffon with
crocheted lace cuffs. She wore
matching accessories and a
white royal bouquet orchid with
a touch of yellow.
The groom’s mother wore a
dress of sky blue knit with long
sleeves. The sleeves had opened
accented work. She wore
matching accessories and a
white royal bouquet orchid with
a touch of blue.
A reception was given by the
bride’s parents in the church
fellowship hall.
The punch table and bride’s
table were overlaid in an
apricot cloth with apricot
chiffon draped around the table.
Double wedding rings, made
from white velvet tubing with
clusters of flowers and bows of
white fused edge ribbon were on
each end of the tables and in the
center.
The bride’s book table was
overlaid in white with a chiffon
drape with the double wedding
rings identical to the bride’s
table.
Miss Lynn Smith of Griffin
kept the bride’s book. A frosted
memory candle adorned the
table. A white plume pen was
used as the guests registered.
The bride’s table held the five
tiered wedding cake. The cake
was decorated in all white with
the two top tiers separated with
Grecian columns. A miniature
bride and groom adorned the
bottom three layers and a large
dove adorned the top two
layers.
A silver candelabra, holding
white tapers, and arrangements
of summer flowers, yellow and
white carnations, yellow pom
pons, bronze daisy mums, was
placed on the other end of the
bride’s table. The bride’s
bouquet was placed on the table
during the reception.
Mrs. Robert Hale of Griffin
cut the cake. She was assisted
by Mrs. Raymond English of
Griffin.
The punch table held a silver
candelabra with five white
tapers and an arrangement of
summer flowers.
Miss Molly Holloman of
Griffin and Miss Julia Locke of
Newnan served punch.
For a short wedding trip, the
bride chose an apricot whipped
cream floral print with empire
waist and long sleeves. She
wore the orchid lifted from her
bouquet.

Third Ward
PTA has
open house
The Parent-Teacher
Association of Third Ward
School opened its 1972-73 year
with an open house. President,
Larry Evans, presided during
the business session.
Mrs. Leon Wood presented
the inspirational. A patriotic
table decoration was provided
by the hospitality chairman,
Mrs. George Murray.
The officers and committee
chairmen were introduced by
Mr. Evans.
It was announced a ‘Clean Up’
day will be held Sept. 23
beginning at 9 a.m.
An invitation was extended to
visit with the teachers.
In October, Dr. Allen Ault,
warden of the Georgia
Diagnostic and Classification
Center of Jackson, will be the
guest speaker.
Linen Is Back
Linen and fabrics that look
like linen return in full force.
The fabric is being used for
flaring pants with matching
tops and especially for short
dresses and suits.

PTO meets
The East Griffin PTO met
Tuesday for the September
meeting. Jimmy Sutton, presi
dent, presided.
Donald York gave the
devotional.
Robert Nix, principal, in
troduced the teachei s for the
year.
During the business session,
the PTO voted to purchase three
televisions, one P.A. system
and Reader’s Digest for each
grade.
Following the meeting,
refreshments were served to
the group.
Beaverbrook
PTA meets
The September meeting of the
Beaverbrook PTA opened with
an inspiration given by Mrs.
Chrystine Peeples.
President, Margaret Boggs,
introduced each of the com
mute chairmen for the coming
year and asked for volunteers to
help on the library committee.
A fund raising project was
presented by Charles Mobley,
principal, which was approved
along with the budget for the
coming year.
Winners in a tie for having the
most parents present at the
meeting were Mrs. Prince and
Mr. Vaugh’s classes.
Following the introduction of
the staff, all of which were
present, the meeting was ad
journed and parents visited the
classrooms to talk with the
teachers.
The 'New' Oxford
Big clunky oxfords, once
so unfashionable, are the
most stylish shoes for fall.
The only difference with the
“new” oxford are the bright
ly colored suede and fringes
that have been added.
