WASHINGTON (UPI)-The U.S. director of the Soviet-
American spaceflight scheduled for 1975 says the feared
language problem may turn out to be an advantage for the
unique international project.
American and Soviet space pilots will undergo intensive
language training for two years before launch and
engineers on both sides already are studying each other’s
technical vocabularies.
But Rocco A. Petrone, the American program director,
said the language difference is not a barrier and “in many
ways it’s an asset.
“It forces people to be much clearer in their
communications,” Petrone said in an interview.

“Because we’re dealing with a group of people whose
culture, background and engineering training are
different, we try to be more than clear— and he in turn
with you—so that you understand there are no semantics
involved.”
Petrone, also director of the Apollo moon program for
the space agency, said both sides are making good
progress in planning the rendezvous and earth orbital
linkup of American and Soviet manned spaceships.
He said the project has many potential problem areas at
the management and operational levels, but he said both
sides have a common goal and, so far, no decisions have
been held up because of bilateral differences.
“We note a certain sense of wanting to move along on
their part just as on our part,” Petrone said. “I’m quite

optimistic in carrying it out technically correct and
operationally correct in the latter half of 1975.”
The objective of the mission is to prove that American
and Soviet spacecraft can rendezvous and dock in space
for rescue purposes. The venture also is seen as a first
step toward future cooperative space missions.
“The purpose of the program is to demonstrate that we
can work together,” Petrone said. “Personally, I think it’s
a fantastic thing to be investing some money in.”
Plans call for the two-man Soviet Soyuz spacecraft to be
launched first from Russia’s Tyuratam space base. The
Apollo will be launched from Cape Kennedy 7% hours
later and attempt to rendezvous and hook up with the
Soyuz within 24 hours. The two ships will remain docked
for 48 hours.

Oven-baked chicken takes
on prestige airs when served
with a topping of wine. And
bourbon-flavors Fiesta
Crepes Casserole.
Either of these dishes is im
pressive enough to take top
billing for a brunch, luncheon,
dinner or supper party.
OVEN SIMMERED
CHICKEN
2% pound frying
chicken, cut into
serving pieces
3 tablespoons butter
Salt and freshly
ground pepper
1 cup heavy
(whipping) cream
2 tablespoons
Chablis wiie
Watercress
Rinse chicken and wipe dry.
Heat butter in a heavy, large
frying pan over medium heat
until it bubbles. Add the
chicken and saute until golden
on all sizes, about 20 minutes.
Season generously with salt
and pepper. Pour the cream
over the chicken, and then
bake covered in a very slow
oven (275) for one hour or un
til the chicken is tender; turn

A docking module being built in the United States will
serve as the link between the two ships. It also will serve
as an airlock to permit astronauts and cosmonauts to
transfer from one ship to the other.
Early Launch Needed
Petrone said the Russian spacecraft will return to earth
after undocking from the Apollo, but the American craft
will remain in orbit for a total of 13 days to carry out
scientific experiments.
If the Apollo cannot be launched 7% hours after the
Soyuz launching, attempts could be made on the next
three days. But since Soyuz will only be able to stay up for
five days, Petrone said an Apollo launch on the fourth day
would mean there would be time only “to make your
docking, say hello and goodby.”

FIESTA CREPES
CASSEROLE
Crepes
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon Bourbon
2 tablespoons
melted butter
3 /« cup flour
teaspoon salt
Chicken Filling
3 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, chopped
4 green pepper, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
3 fresh tomatoes,
chopped ( or 16 oz. can
tomatoes, drained
and chopped)
teaspoon salt
l 4 teaspoon chili powder
"•s teaspoon pepper
3 cups diced cooked
chicken or turkey
Cheese Sauce
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
l/ 2 teaspoon salt
teaspoon pepper
4 cup chicken bouillon
l -2 cup milk
cup grated
Swiss cheese

Crepes: Beat eggs, yolks,
milk, Bourbon, melted butter
together until well-combined.
Beat in flour and salt until
smooth. (Or whirl all ingredi
ents in blender). Heat a 6 or 7-
inch skillet; brush with but
ter. Pour in 2 tablespoons bat
ter, rotating pan to spread.
Cook until brown, turn; brown
second side. Repeat with rest
of batter. Makes about 16
crepes.
Filling: Melt butter in skil
let. Add onion, green pepper
and garlic; cook until tender.
Add tomatoes and season
ings; simmer 15 minutes. Add
chicken, cook 5 minutes
longer.
Sauce: Melt butter, stir in
flour and seasonings. Gradu
ally stir in bouillon and milk.
Cook over low heat, stirring
constantly, until smooth and
thick. Cook 5 minutes more,
stirring. Add cheeses and stir
until melted.
Assembly: Put cup of
chicken filing in the center of
each crepe; roll up. As crepes
are filled, place in large cas
serole. Spoon cheese sauce
over. Place casserole in pre
heated 325 degree F. oven for
15 minutes, or until heated
through. When serving, ignite
warmed Bourbon and pour
over sauce. Serve when
flames subside. Makes 8 serv
ings.
CLIP N’ COOK
PREHEAT OVEN TO 375”. Prepare the mix ac
cording to package directions. Stir in com and
bacon drippings. Spoon half the batter into a
greased 9x9x2 inch pan. Lay chile strips over
batter (remove chile seeds if you do not care for
the hot flavor), sprinkle with half the cheese. Top
with remaining batter, then the remaining cheese.
Bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes. Serve hot.
Makes 9 servings.
