Pike player
recovering
Terry Adams was recovering
in an Atlanta hospital today
from surgery for removal of a
blood clot.
The Pike County football
player suffered an injury
earlier in the season.
School officials said the
surgery was reported to be
successful and they hope the
student can be returned to his
home in Pike County soon.

The following persons were
admitted to the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital:

Jr. Auxiliary
Mrs. Myrtice Sanders of
Atlanta was the guest speaker
at the November meeting of the
American Legion Junior
Auxiliary Post 546. Her subject
was ‘‘The Importance of
Youth.”
The meeting was held at the
Post Home. Miss Gail Reid,
president, presided over the
business session. Routine
reports were made by Miss
Carolyn Jester, assistant
secretary, and Miss Lynn
Jester, treasurer.
Each member brought
canned food for Thanskgiving
baskets to be distributed to the
needy families in the com
munity. The Auxiliary voted to
give a donation to the Wesley
Calhoun family that was burned
out.
Mrs. Hattie Jester, the Junior
advisor, introduced the
speaker. Mrs. Sanders em
phasized some of the ways the
Junior Auxiliary could help
themselves and the community.
Miss Paula Calhoun,
chaplain, read the closing
prayer.
Thirteen members were
present and five senior ad
visors. Visitors welcomed were
Mrs. Mary Logan of Jonesboro,
4th district president, John
Logan of Jonesboro and Mr.
Sanders of Atlanta.

Dr. Albert E. Smith, pack
master of Cub Pack 40, has been
named unit leader of the month.
First Presbyterian Church
sponsors the pack. Four den
mothers assist him, including
his wife - , and two Webeloes
leaders in maintaining a
program for 32 Cubs. A native of
Kansas, he obtained his Ph. D.
degree from Texas A&M, in 1969
and has been employed at the
Georgia Experiment Station
here in the agronomy depart
ment. Dr. Smith is a deacon in
the First Presbyterian Church,
past president of Presbyterian
Men, and president of the Jan
Investment Club. He and his
wife June, with their two
children live at 127 Woodmont
drive.
