Peron’s life threatened
BUENOS AIRES (UPI) -The
government took extra security
precautions today to protect
former president Juan D. Peron
after announcing it had re
ceived reports of an assassina
tion plot against him.
One measure, the government
said, was the dispersal of
supporters of the 77-year-old
former dictator from the street
in front of the house where he
has stayed since returning from
exile last week.
The government did not
specify who planned to kill
Peron.
A communique from the
office of President Alejandro
Lanusse said:

Peron if they disagreed with I
any action he takes. '
Members of the Justicialista i
party Peron leads called the i
government announcement a i
pretext to isolate Peron from
his followers.
lanusse scheduled a news I
conference later today and 1
observers said he was likely to i
discuss the national election i
next March and Peron’s possi- <
ble role in it. i
lanusse, who also commands :
the Argentine army, allowed
Peron to end his exile last
week, 17 years after his ouster
at the end of a decade of
dictatorial rule.
But whether Lanusse would
allow Peron to take direct part
in the elections was not known.
Peron is barred from seeking
the presidency under a residen
cy law but he could nominate a
member of his own party to
run for the office—if the
military government allows it.
Confers With Leaders
Peron conferred with most of
the nation’s political party
leaders Monday night at a
meeting Peronists said resulted
in a move to seek changes in
electoral laws which would
allow the onetime strongman to
seek the presidency.
However, some political sour-
ces said, Peron was likely to
withdraw publicly from all
politics “in the interest of
national unity,” introduce his
own chosen candidate and then
go back to Spain.
A newsman who penetrated
Peron’s personal and police
bodyguard to get close enough
to shout questions, said Peron
told him: “The day is not far
off when I shall return to
Spain.”

Brenda Willis
GHS senior
likes WEP
program
Griffin High School Senior
Brenda Willis is one of more
than 50 upper class students
who are participating in the
GHS Work Experience
Program (WEP).
The WEP program allows
students to work in training
positions in Griffin industry
during a part of the school day,
while attending some classes.
“I am now a senior and upon
my graduation, I will be
competing for a good job,”
Brenda said.
She has been training for a
position as a ward clerk or
secretary at the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital.
“I am able to attend four
classes a day with my
schoolmates, while completing
the hospital’s six-month
training period,” she added.
The assurance of completing
her high school work with a
good average as well as the
guarantee of a job upon
graduation has given Brenda a
new-found self-confidence.
“Because of the last two
years I have spent in the WEP
program, and the opportunities
that I have received, many of
my worries have been solved,”
she said.
Oscar Stokes and Mark
Phinezee are the coordinator
advisors for the GHS Work
Experience Program.

Penn. House
votes change
in sex laws
HARRISBURG, Pa. (UPI) -
The state House voted Tuesday
to legalize premarital and
extramarital sex.
The chamber voted, 175-10,
for a new 200-page criminal
code which recodifies and
reclassifies most old criminal
statutes.
The law prohibiting adultery
and fornication was deleted
from the revised codes. An
attempt by one House member
to put it back in fell by a 73-111
vote.
Rep. Robert C. Wise said the
old law is used mainly to
blackmail persons in property
settlement suits and generally
is unenforceable.
“It is time to change the
law,” he said.
The sponsor of the amend
ment, Rep. Martin P. Mullen of
Philadelphia, said the law is
reeded to “protect the family
unit.”
“If we don’t set standards,”
he said, “everybody will be
going around doing what they
want.”
“I can’t help wondering how
many in this room engaged in
premarital sex,” replied Rep.
William Shane. “Let he who is
without sin cast the first ‘yes’
vote.”

Third major hotel
planned in Atlanta
ATLANTA (UPI) — Construc
tion plans for a third major ho
tel in downtown Atlanta in
recent weeks was disclosed
Tuesday. It will rise — 45
stories tall — as the Phoenix of
Atlanta.
The Phoenix will not be as
tall as the recently announced
70-story Western International
Hotel. But with 2,050 rooms in
a two-million square foot com
plex costing SIOO million, it will
be one of the larger hotels in
the world, revaling the Ukraine
Hotel in Moscow with 3,000
rooms and towering 650 feet
tall, the Stevens in Chicago with
2,600 rooms and the New York
Rockefeller Hilton with 2,100
rooms.
The developers, Dutch Inns of
America, said the Phoenix will
be larger in interior area than
either the 70-story Western In
ternational Hotel which will rise
like a silo at Peachtree Center
or the 35-story Hilton Hotel de
veloped by Crow, Pope and
Land Associates. Both of those
hotels will contain 1,200 rooms.
The Phoenix will be located
on a 3.17 acre tract on Spring
Street between Simpson and
Williams Streets, near Peach
tree Center, the pride and joy
of latter day developers in At
lanta.
Construction has been sched
uled to start next summer and
target for completion is July 4,
1975.
Dutch Inris of America is a
Miami - based chain of nine
small motels, spread from
Rhode Island to Puerto Rico.
The company recently began
construction of a 616-room ho
tel at Disney World in Orlando.
Plants mini garden
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (UPI)
—A city judge has ordered the
planting of what authorities
believe will be a mini
marijuana garden.
Municipal Court Judge Wil
liam A. Stone instructed Kern
County sheriff’s chemist Vernon
Kyle to plant suspected mari
juana seeds and report back
Dec. 4 on their growth.
He ordered the action at a
preliminary hearing for Gerald
Hiser, 33, and Jacklynn Beach,
18, who are charged with
possession of marijuana be
cause of the seeds found in
their apartment.
