Sen. Herman Talmadge (r), Georgia Public Service Commission Chairman Ben Wiggins (c) and
Southern Bell Vice President Jasper Dorsey talk following Senator Talmadge’s address to the 50th
Assembly of the Dixie Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America at its meeting at Jekyll
Island. Wiggins, as chairman of the Jekyll Island Authority, welcomed the delegates and Dorsey
introduced Sen. Talmadge. The Dixie Chapter is the parent organization of 18 Pioneer councils
covering over 6,200 active and retired Bell System employees throughout the state of Georgia.

City Commissioners
discussed improvements,
yesterday at their planning
session that may be made at
Rest Haven cemetery, provided
there is money in the budget.
Paving streets, fencing the
cemetery and offering per
petual care of graves were
among the improvements
suggested.
Child injured
A five-year-old child was
injured slightly yesterday when
struck by a car in front of her
home on Beatty street.
Police said Sandra Jones of
1447 Beatty street was treated
in a doctor’s office for minor
bruises and abrasions. She ran
into the street from a driveway
and into the path of a pickup
truck driven by James L. Ray,
35, of Williamson.
