Deaths-Funerals
Rev. Taylor
Funeral services for the Rev.
Jesse Oneal Taylor of 108 Grady
street will be conducted Friday
morning at 11 o’clock in West
Griffin Congregational Church.
The Rev. Asa Dorsey, the Rev.
Lewis James and the Rev.
Terry Crews will officiate and
burial will be in Oak Hill
cemetery.
The Rev. Taylor died Tuesday
morning at Brightmoor Medical
Care Center.
McDonald Chapel is in charge
of plans.

physical ed.

Tim White was named the
outstanding boy and Rita Smith
the outstanding girl in the
Spalding Junior High I physical
education program.
Girls in the ninth grade pro

— The 10 policemen on duty at
Gatwick airport have not issued
one traffic ticket in 10 weeks.
It isn’t because everyone is a
faultless driver. A police
spokesman said officers are

Mr. Lyons
Funeral services for Mr.
James D. Lyons of Bronx, N.Y.,
will be conducted Friday
morning at 11 o’clock from the
Good Shepherd Baptist Church
with burial in the International
cemetery, Bronx, N.Y.
Mr. Lyons is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Sharon Lyons; son,
Sean Lyons, both of Bronx;
three sisters, Miss Delores
Lyons, Miss Mary Ann Lyons
and Miss Juanita Lyons;
brother, Williams Mathis, all of
Griffin.

Mrs. Bibbs
Mrs. Myrtice Bibbs, 37, of 529
McKneely street died unex
pectedly Monday night at the
Griffin-Spalding Hospital.
Survivors include a son,
Freeman M. Bibbs; two sisters,
Mrs. Mattie Walton and Mrs.
Lucy Kate Sinkfield, all of
Griffin; five brothers, Aldean
Bibbs, Amos Bibbs, both of
Griffin, Howard Bibbs, Wilson
Bibbs and Freeman Bibbs, all of
Atlanta.
Funeral plans will be an
nounced by Spalding Un
dertaking Co.
Miss Kennedy
will appear in
historical drama
Marisu Kennedy was
graduated from Agnes Scott
College in ceremonies held on
the college’s campus in
Decatur, Sunday. Miss Ken
nedy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey J. Kennedy, Jr., of
Barnesville, a dramtic art
major, received the B.A. degree
from the college.
Miss Kennedy will appear this
summer in the premier
production of “Drumbeats In
Georgia,” a pageant produced
by the Authority at Jekyll
Island. This historical drama
was written by Paul Green,
author of “Unto These Hills”
and other dramatic spec
taculars.
She has appeared in summer
stock offerings at the Flat Rock
Playhouse, Flat Rock, N.C. for
the past two summers. She
became seriously interested in
drama while a speech student of
Mrs. ZeDene Long when she
attended Gordon Military
College.
A member of Alpha Psi
Omega, national honorary
dramatic fraternity, Miss
Kennedy, has acted, directed,
and assisted in many Black
friars productions while she
was a student. She has also
appeared on educational tv.
programs.

Strickland the outstanding girl
in the Spalding Junior High II
physical education program
during the year.

Murphy joins
police force
Harry Murphy, GriSin High
School graduate, has joined the
Griffin Police Department as a
patrolman.
Chief Leo Blackwell an
nounced the appointment.
Murphy was an outstanding
basketball player at Griffin
High.
Murphy graduated from St.
Augustine College at Raleigh,
N.C., this year.
After a few months of ex
perience, he will be scheduled to
attend the state police training
school in Atlanta.
