Regents
say shift
unrealistic
MACON, Ga. (UPI) - The
Georgia Board of Regents said
in a legal brief filed in a U.S.
District Court here that it is
unrealistic to transfer faculty
involuntarily to Fort Valley
State College to desegregate it.
The regents’ brief was filed
Monday in response to a peti
tion filed last month by resi
dents of Fort Valley who said
that the regents’ plan was
“wholly inadequate.”
The brief said the university
system and the regents do not
hire faculty, but that each pro
fessor enters into a contract
with an individual institution.
• “You just can’t compel a
teacher to be assigned to some
other college than the one he
chose.
