The 280 acre project, being
developed by the Stonehenge
Development Corp, of Atlanta,
is described as a “supermar
ket” for trucks by Ralph 0.
Hutchinson, president of the
company constructing the cen
ter.
Hutchinson said the center
would be the first of its kind,
a “mini-city...designed to pro
vide a complete range of vehi
cle maintenance and repair
services, lodging and food facil
ities, various business services
such as leasing, warehousing
and refrigerated storage, as well
as communications, central bill-
ing and legal services.”
Noting that Metropolitan At
lanta is the distribution hub of
the Southeast, Hutchinson said
the new facilities would be lo
cated just off 1-285, close to the
Atlanta airport and within five
miles of the Farmer’s Market,
which depends on trucks for de-
livery of 90 per cent of its pro
duce.
Hutchinson said the second
phase of the development would
be the industrial park which
would be built around the trans
port center, “so that shipping
facilities are immediately avail
able to industry locating in the
park.”

Talmadge
appalled
at courts
MARIETTA, Ga. (UPI) -U.S.
Sen. Herman Talmadge, D-Ga.,
said Wednesday he was
“appalled” at the lenient way
criminals were being treated by
the courts.
“I am appalled that we have
come to a point where a person
can commit murder, be convict
ed, and then be free on parole
in a few short years,” Tal
madge said in a speech to the
Cobb County Peace Officers As
sociation.
The Georgia senator said he
was alarmed at the way many
courts quickly released people
accused of drug peddling and
advocated “tougher laws” and
“tougher law enforcement.”
Talmadge said he has spon
sored legislation to crack down
on gun felons and hard drug
pushers but said he was opposed
to what is usually called gun
control. “But I am not opposed
to giving a stiff sentence to any
one convicted of committing a
crime with a gun.”
He said he had also sponsored
legislation to speed up trials so
those accused of crime could
not be freed while awaiting for
their case to come up.
Health
problems
answer
ATLANTA (UPI)—A state of
ficial said Wednesday that one
way to reduce the city’s homi
cide rate would be to begin by
helping “families and commu
nities solve their health prob
lems.”
Dr. James W. Alley, director
of the division of physical
health, said “killers and crip
plers” such as heart disease,
cancer, stroke, automobile ac
cidents and homicides are “re
lated to the family as a unit
and to the community environ
ment in which the family lives.”
Alley told the Human Re
sources Board to put more em
phasis on resolving family prob
lems following an invitation by
Gov. Jimmy Carter to Atlanta
officials to suggest ways of cut
ting down the city’s alarming
murder rate, ranked by the FBI
as first in the nation.
Authorities say a large per
centage of homicides occur
within families and frequently
result from husband-wife quar
rels.
Alley said he was adopting a
“family approach” to physical
health problems and would
name deputy directors for fam
ily and community health and
local affairs.
Alley said W. A. Hansell, an
environmental health specialist
with the Human Resources De
partment for more than 30
years, will head the community
health unit. Dr. Albert
Schoenbucher, director of the
maternal health unit will handle
local affairs.
