Man inhales
gas fumes
Lynwood Brooks of Vaughn
was admitted to the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital with injuries
he suffered by inhaling clorine
gas while on the job at Southern
States Inc. in Hampton. He was
reported to be in fair condition
today by hospital attendants.
Man injured
A collision on the North
Expressway at Vineyard road
early yesterday afternoon sent
a Riverdale man to the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital with face and
arm injuries.
Troopers at the Griffin State
Patrol Post identified him as
Nelson Evan Jones, 24. They
said a pickup truck, driven by
Mike Gary Hand, 26, of 1219
North Ninth street, skidded
across the expressway median
and into Jones’ auto which was
traveling in the opposite direc
tion. The accident happened
during a heavy rain, troopers
said.

Air conditioner
stolen here
Police are looking for thieves
who stole a window air con
ditioner from a storage room at
240 Sylvan lane.
The home was purchased by
the Rev. and Mrs. Hartwell
Kennedy who plan to move
there from the house owned by
the Second Baptist Church on
Skyline drive. The Rev. Ken
nedy recently retired as pastor
of Second Baptist.
The air conditioner was
placed in the storage room
while the house on Sylvan lane
is being renovated.

Charles Curtis, elected vice

Herbert Hoover, was of Indian
ancestry. His mother was a
full-blooded member of the

Clothing
drive
planned
The Griffin Kiwanis Club will
have its annual clothing drive
Sept. 24.
Members of the club will call
on homes throughout the
community and gather clothing
for needy school-age students.
Scott Searcy will coordinate
the program. The Under
privileged Children’s Com
mittee will sponsor the event.

Talmadge will speak to the
Food Manufacturers Sales
Executive Club of Atlanta
tomorrow at the Marriott Motor
Hotel. Sen. Talmadge is
chairman of the Senate Com
mittee on Agriculture and is
also serving on the Senate
Select Committee on
Presidential Campaign Ac
tivities.

Sales Executive Club is an
association of more than 125
leading grocery manufacturers
and their sales executives who
supply food stores in Atlanta
and the southeastern United
States. Hugh Hunt, executive

County Hospital.

Shotgun stolen
Harvey Calhoun of 229 Day
street reported to Griffin police
that someone came into his
home and stole a 12-gauge shot
gun.
I Deaths-Funerals I
Mr. Gray
Mr. George Lewis Gray, 58, of
650 Garrett street, Griffin, died
Wednesday at St. Joseph
Hospital in Atlanta after an
extended illness.
Mr. Gray was bom in Coweta
County and was a member of
the Baptist Church. He was
card room supervisor at
Crompton-Highland Mill in
Griffin. Mr. Gray had made his
home in Griffin for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Ema Hubbard Gray; two
daughters, Mrs. Richard
Gunter, of Juniper, Fla., and
Mrs. William D. Parker of
Lithia, Fla.; a son, John L.
Gray of Athens; step-mother,
Mrs. Zona Gray of Sharpsburg;
four sisters Mrs. J. B.
Callaway, Mrs. Charles D.
Smith, both of Newnan, Mrs.
Raymond Hartman of Elyria,
Ohio and Mrs. Edward Harris of
Sharpsburg; four brothers,
Benjamin Gray of Newnan,
Hugh Gray of Athens, Quig
Gray and Frankie Gray, both of
Sharpsburg; 12 grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at 2
o’clock in the chapel of McKoon
Funeral Home in Newnan. The
Rev. Willie Joe Loftin will of
ficiate and burial will be in
Southview cemetery in
Moreland.
