Trustee chairman Jim Strong
said that Building Chairman
Mrs. Virginia Shapard already
had contacted all the city com
missioners individually about
the proposal and had received
their approval.
Mrs. Shapard was not present
at the meeting.
Strong could not estimate the
exact size of the additional
piece of property, but said that
it was about the size of a house
lot
“It would just be used to
round out our present
property,” he said. ’
The city already has deeded
3.74 acres of property for a
library site.
The trustees noted that
construction should start on the
new facility sometime in
December 1973.
The State Board of Education
approved $250,000 in state funds
for the construction of the Flint
River Regional Headquarters
building in Griffin, during the
board’s June meeting.
Local library officials are
awaiting notification of guide
lines and the money.
Regional library director
Walter Murphy pointed out the
need for a new bookmobile for
continued service to rural
areas.
Murphy requested the
trustees’ approval to make
application to the state for the
$27,000 necessary to purchase a
new mobile unit.
He explained that there were
no funds (federal) available at
this time for the project, but
that Griffin would be reserving
a place in line for when funds
were available.

Actually, the program will be

Dr. Woodroof said the Legion
