Car bash planned
for ALSAC drive
Young people who will work
in the ALSAC drive Sunday will
meet tomorrow night at the
Man injured
in hit-run
accident
Ronnie Fuller, 19, of 620 West
Poplar street, was injured
Monday night when struck by a
hit and run driver in front of his
home on Poplar street.
He told police that he was
holding a flashlight looking for a
cigaret lighter he had lost when
a green pickup ran into him.
The truck did not stop, he said.
He was carried to the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital emergency
room and treated for head in
juries.

National Guard Armory for a
review of plans.
The money collected in the
drive will be for St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital in Mem
phis.
Gary Evans is coordinator of
the drive this year. Abbie
Mansour is the student coor
dinator.
Plans call for a “car bash”
Saturday to help raise money.
An old model car will be
secured and people will get to
hit it with a sledge hammer for
a quarter, Evans explained.
He said the word leukemia
would be painted on the vehicle.
People taking a bash at the car
will be taking a bash at
lieukemia, Evans said. The
Memphis hospital has an ex
tensive research and care
program for leukemia victims.
Evans said the door-to-door
canvas for contributions would
be held Sunday beginning at 1
p.m. when the young people
meet at Griffin High for assign
ments.
Evans, manager of Holiday
Inn in Griffin, will set up a
coordinating station at the Inn
Sunday so students can report
their collections there.
GHS student
arrested
A 17-year-old Griffin High
School student was arrested on
the campus yesterday when
school officials found a number
of illegal pills in his possession
and called police.
He was identified as Seaton
Grantland Bailey, ,17, of Route
Six. Police charged him with
violating the Georgia Drug
Abuse and Control Act by
possessing the tablets, thought
to be speed.
The arrest was made by Drug
Squad Agent Terry Belvin.
Burglary
Police investigated a
burglary which was discovered
yesterday morning at Mack’s
Department Store on West
Broad street.
The burglars entered the
building through a rear window
and took more than S4OO worth
of clothing. The missing items
included pants, shoes, coats and
suits.

Mrs. Crawford
Mrs. Ethel Irene Entrekin
Crawford of 1424 Pine drive died
Tuesday morning at the Living
Center of Griffin.
Mrs. Crawford was bom in
Carroll County and had made
her home in Griffin for 25 years.
She was a member of the First
Assembly of God Church and a
retired employe of Griffin In
dustrial Corporation.
She is survived by seven
daughters, Mrs. Jean Wilson,
Mrs. Joann Spoone, Mrs.
Dorothy Evans, Mrs. Joyce
Ellis, all of Griffin, Mrs. Marie
Manderson of Jonesboro, Mrs.
Billie Gunn and Mrs. Gail Scott,
both of Zebulon; two sons,
Charles Crawford and Rickey
Crawford, both of Griffin; two
sisters, Mrs. Louise Buchanan
of Morrow and Mrs. Myrtle
Tarleton of Griffin; three
brothers, Claude Entrekin,
Jesse Entrekin, both of Griffin,
and Harold Entrekin of
Riverdale; 44 grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted Thursday afternoon
at 3:30 o’clock in the First
Assembly of God Church. The
Rev. E. P. Pruett, the Rev.
Dave Hunt and the Rev.
Thurmond Fountain will of
ficiate and burial will be in Oak
Hill cemetery. The body will
remain at McDonald Chapel.
Mrs. Foster
Mrs. Nina Mae Lindsey
Hudgins Foster, 68, of Route
one, Carroll road, Barnesville,
died Tuesday at Brightmoor
Medical Home where she had
been a patient for a week.
Mrs. Foster was the widow of
Mr. Lee Foster and a retired
forelady of American Mills in
Jackson. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church in
Barnesville.
She is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Marie Mullen of Griffin;
two sons, Bobby Lee Hudgins of
Barnesville and Willie Bernice
Hudgins of Jonesboro; a sister,
Mrs. Cora Lee Coleman of
Dublin; four brothers, Lenten
Lindsey of Warner Robins,
Kittrell Lindsey of Orlando,
Fla., Johnny Lindsey of New
Orleans, La., and Cressie Lind
sey of Nassau; 19 grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at 1
o’clock in Haisten’s chapel in
Barnesville. The Rev. Raymond
H. Monkus will officiate and
burial will be in Greenwood
cemetery.
ROTARYCLUB
Sergeant Paul C. Johnston,
Public Relations Officer,
Department of Natural
Resources, Game and Fish
Division, State of Georgia, will
be guest speaker at the noon
meeting of the Griffin Rotary
Club on Thursday, at the Elks
Club. Sgt. Johnston will talk on
the Okefenokee Swamp.
Mr. Mullins
Mr. Alton Tensley Mullins of
Route three, Ellenwood, died
Tuesday evening at St. Joseph’s
Infirmary in Atlanta.
Mr. Mullins was bom in
Lamar County and had made
his home in Ellenwood for 19
years. He was a member of the
High Shoals Primitive Baptist
Church.
Survivors include a son,
Timmy Mullins; two daughters,
Miss Phyllis Diana Mullins and
Miss Donna Marie Mullins;
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emory
Taylor Mullins; sister, Mrs.
Mamie Baughcum, all of
Ellenwood and several aunts
and uncles.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at 2
o’clock in the High Shoals
Primitive Baptist Church.
Elder Paul Mann will officiate
and burial will be in the church
cemetery. The body will remain
at McDonald Chapel.
Mr. Warner
Mr. Melvin Warner of Route
seven, Griffin, died Tuesday at
the Griffin-Spalding Hospital.
Mr. Warner was a lifelong
resident of Spalding County and
a member of the Antioch
Baptist Church on the Zebulon
road.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Willie Mae Warner; son,
Richard Warner of Kentucky;
and a sister, Miss Mary Warner
of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by McDowell United
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris
Mrs. Louise Harris of Route
one, Hogansville, died Tuesday
night at the City-County
Hospital in LaGrange.
Mrs. Harris was a lifelong
resident of Meriwether County.
Survivors include her
husband, Roosevelt Harris.
Funeral plans will be an
nounced by Union Society
Funeral Home of Concord.
