weekends, have military dates
this Saturday.
Tulane, which suffered its
first defeat of the season at
Kentucky last Saturday, enter
tains Navy in New Orleans
while Miami seeks to rebound
from an upset by West Virginia
at the expense of Army.
Neither will be at full
strength, however.
Two Tulane starters—defen
sive tackle Charles Hall and
wide receiver Frank Anderson
—will miss the Navy game with
injuries and four others are
doubtful participants.
Tackle Rubin Carter, out with
a bruised ankle, is a doubtful
starter for Miami in its venture
to West Point.
Auburn went back to basics
Monday in its practice session
for Saturday’s battle with
Mississippi State.
“We have neglected some of
the basic things in the past
several practices and decided
to see if we could improve on
them a little,” said coach
Ralph Jordan.
Mississippi State concentrat
ed on goal line defense and
offense in a two-hour session
Monday.
Georgia Tech also empha
sized goal line stands Monday
as the Yellow Jackets prepared
for VMI. Vanderbilt ran
through a general review in its
plans for Kentucky, which
Coach Steve Sloan called a
“greatly improved” team.
At Georgia, Coach Vince
Dooley moved defensive guard
Chuck Kinnebrew to tackle to
bolster that position, which has
been weakened by injury. The
Bulldogs play Florida Saturday.
Coach Doug Dickey told his
Florida squad that “Georgia
has one of the biggest football
teams in the country.”
Second-ranked Alabama has
an open date this weekend, so
the Tide is taking it easy before
beginning preparations for
Miami, the next foe.
