Atlanta Flames,
Blues tie, 2-2
ATLANTA (UPI) - Coach
Bernie Geoffrion was “pleased”
with his Atlanta Flames 2-2 tie
with the St. Louis Blues but he
wasn’t ecstatic.
“I don’t kid you, I was
praying to win that bloody
game. That would have put us
seven points ahead of St
Louis,” said Geoffrion after the
Wednesday night battle. “But
one point for me, I’m also very
pleased with it.”
The one point for the tie gave
the Flames 16 points in the
West Division standings of the
National Hockey League. St.
Louis is third with 11 points.

Geoffrion had high praise for
the Blues’ rookie goaltender,
John Davidson.
“The kid in the net out there
for them is going to be a great
goaltender,” said Geoffrion.
“Give credit where credit is
due. He showed a lot. He’s fast
and he’s cool.”
St. Louis played a very
defensive, close-checking game
with its forwards backchecking
quickly to break of Atlanta’s
offensive thrusts.
“They peel off and check
their wings, they check, check,
check,” Geoffrion said of the
Blues’ strategy.
