Fred Watkins (c) of Griffin was presented a “Lay Award” at the Georgia Recreation and
Parks Society conference recently in Macon. He was presented the award for his
contributions to the Griffin Recreation Department. Presenting the award are (1) Bruce
Prosser, Georgia Recreation and Parks Society awards chairman, and Larry Neill,
director of the Griffin Recreation Department.

Mr. Wilson
Mr. Newt Neal Wilson of
Searcy avenue died this mor
ning at Brightmoor Medical
Care Home.
Mr. Wilson was bom in Banks
County and had lived in Griffin
for 40 years. He attended the
East Griffin Congregational
Holiness Church and was a
retired employe of Dundee Mill
No. Five.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Cora Ella Wilson; two
daughters, Mrs. Effie Bass and
Mrs. Della Smith; two sons,
Marvin Wilson and Roy Wilson,
all of Griffin; a sister, Mrs.
Clara Brown of Conyers; a
brother, Dewey Wilson of
Porterdale; 13 grandchildren,
22 great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at
4:30 o’clock in McDonald
Chapel. The Rev. Herman
Hearn will officiate and burial
will be in Griffin Memorial
Gardens. The body will remain
at the funeral home.
Mrs. Green
Mrs. Zola Sanders Green of
645 West Quilley street died
Tuesday at the Griffin-Spalding
Hospital.
Mrs. Green was born in Crisp
County and had made her home
in Griffin for 37 years. She was a
retired employe of Thomaston
Mills, Griffin Division.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Clara Belle Hancock of
Griffin; two sons, Dewey T.
Green of Griffin and James D.
Green of Forest Park; two
sisters, Mrs. Eva L. Strickland
of Griffin and Mrs. Beulah
Dowling of Valdosta; 12
grandchildren, 27 great
grandchildren, four great
great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday morning at 11
o’clock in McDonald Chapel.
Minister Evans McMullen will
officiate and burial will be in
Oak Hill cemetery. The body
will remain at the funeral home.
Friends may visit the family at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Hancock, 511 Wheeler avenue
and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Green,
1311 Everee road.
Church
plans revival
The Rev. Wayman Brown,
pastor of the Edwards Street
Baptist Church in Griffin, will
conduct a weekend revival at
the Philippi Baptist Church in
Locust Grove.
Services will be held nightly
beginning at 7:30.
The Rev. Jimmy Leverett is
pastor of the Philippi Church.
Goodin to appear
in ‘Biography’
Gayle Goodin of Route Three,
Griffin, has been selected to
appear in The Dictionary of
International Biography
published in London.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Luke Goodin and a member of
the New Salem Baptist Church.
Goodin is a member of the
English Department faculty at
DeKalb Community College
where he has taught six years.

Mrs. Clark
Mrs. Sally Estelle Justice
Clark of 121 East Oak street
died Tuesday at St. Joseph’s
Infirmary in Atlanta.
Mrs. Clark was bom in Upson
County and had made her home
here for most of her life. She
was a member of the Full
Gospel Temple Assembly of
God Church and a retired
employe of Griffin Industries
Inc.
Survivors include her
husband, H. B. Clark; three
daughters, Mrs. Darlene
McElroy, Miss Fay Clark and
Mrs. Barbara Ann Goss; three
sons, Aldean Powell, Mike
Clark and Randall Clark; two
sisters, Mrs. Mabel Robinson
and Mrs. Effie Glanton, all of
Griffin; seven grandchildren
and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at 2
o’clock in the Full Gospel
Temple Assembly of God
Church. The Rev. E. D. Goss
will officiate and burial will be
in Oak Hill cemetery. Mc-
Donald Chapel is in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Horton
Mr. Terry Anderson Horton,
27, of Forest Park died at his
residence Tuesday.
Mr. Horton was born in
Griffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray
P. Horton of Griffin, and
received his education in Griffin
Public Schools. He was a
member of DeVotie Baptist
Church and an employe of the
American Can Co., in Forest
Park.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Barbara O’Neal Horton; a
son, Shane Anderson Horton; a
daughter, Stacy Lynn Horton,
all of Forest Park; parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ray P. Horton of
Griffin; two sisters, Mrs. Ray
Newman of Griffin and Mrs.
Jimmy Spivey of Atlanta;
grandmother, Mrs. L. M.
Horton of Griffin; and the
following aunts and uncles, Mr.
and Mrs. James D. Head, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Ogilvie, Mr. and
Mrs. Rufus L. Horton, all of
Griffin, Mr. an and Mrs. W. S.
Flynt of Americus and Mr. and
Mrs. Henry T. Horton of
Doraville.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday morning at 11
o’clock in Haisten’s chapel. The
Rev. Dave Hunt and the Rev.
Homer G. Fowler will officiate
and burial will be in Oak Hill
cemetery. The body will remain
at Haisten Funeral Home.
Mrs. Loner
Mrs. Christine Loner, wife of
Henry H. Loner, died Monday at
the Griffin-Spalding Hospital.
Mrs. Loner was a resident of
Griffin until three weeks ago.
In addition to her husband,
she is survived by four
daughters, Mrs. Gail Huff of
Williamson, Mrs. Susie Hudgins
of Americus, Miss Donna Loner
and Miss Elaine Loner, both of
Senoia; and a son, Marvin
Loner of Senoia.
Funeral services were con
ducted this afternoon at 2
o’clock in the chapel of Hershel
McDaniel Funeral Home of
Fairburn. Burial was in the
Fairburn cemetery.
