Arrests clear burglaries
The Spalding Sheriff’s
Department has cleared at least
four burglaries, which occurred
during the past year, with the
arrest of four Griffinites.
Those charged are James W.
Ray, 26, of 20 Chestnut street;
Edgar Quimbley, 24, of 604 East
Broad street; Harry Thomas,
32, of 1216 Ethridge Mill road;
and Ray Cobb, 26, of Main
street, Highland Mill.
Ray and Quimbley have been
charged with burglarizing the
Cabin Creek Golf Course on
Sept. 27. Ray also has been
charged with the Aug. 29 break-

Mr. Willis
Mr. Hester Warren Willis, 76,
of Route Two, Yatesville road,
Barnesville, died Thursday
afternoon at his residence
following an extended illness.
A native of Worth County, Mr.
Willis was the son of the late
John William Willis and the late
Margaret Collier Willis. He had
made his home in Lamar
County for a long number of
years and was for many years
employed by Aldora
Mills,Division of General Tire
and Rubber Co. Mr. Willis was a
retired farmer and a member of
Union Primitive Baptist Church
in Lamar County.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Rosa Knight Willis of
Barnesville; six daughters,
Mrs. Ethel Spencer of Miami,
Fla., Mrs. Florence Hill of Lake
Worth, Fla., Mrs. Bessie
Partain of Flippen, Mrs.
Margaret Partain of
Thomaston, Mrs. Janice Gilbert
of Cochran and Mrs. Roselle
Edwards of McDonough; two
sons, Julian Willis and Dan
Willis, both of Barnesville; 15
grandchildren, four great
grandchildren; a sister, Mrs.
Mary Elliott of Griffin; two
half-sisters, Mrs. Trudie Smith
of Barnesville and Mrs. Minthy
Whitmire of Austell and a half
brother, Dewey Willis of
Warner Robins.
Funeral services will be
conducted Saturday afternoon
at 2 o’clock from the Union
Primitive Baptist Church.
Elder Ed Evans and Elder
McKinley Wright will officiate
and burial will be in the church
cemetery. The body will remain
at Haisten Funeral Home in
Barnesville until carried to the
church 30 minutes prior to the
funeral hour.
Fall kills two
NEW YORK (UPI) - A
construction worker fell 30
floors Thursday, landed on a
co-worker and killed him. The
man who fell died three hours
later.
Police said they believed
Robert Hanuer, 28, of Stony
Brook, N.Y., may have fallen
out of a harness.

Mrs. Kuzma
Mrs. Naomi Latta Kuzma of
Dutchman road died Thursday
afternoon at the John Meadows
Memorial Hospital in Vidalia
where she had been a patient for
the past five days.
A native of Spalding County
Mrs. Kuzma was the daughter
of the late John Henry Latta and
the late Alice Atkinson Latta.
She was a member of the
Ringgold Christian Church.
She is survived by her
husband, Theodore F. Kuzma of
Griffin; three daughters, Mrs.
Leon Pullin, Jr., Mrs. Daniel
Schmitt, both of Griffin and
Mrs. Harry Hunsucker of
Charlotte, N. C.; two sons,
Ralph Strickland and Roy
Strickland, both of Griffin; 13
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be
conducted Saturday afternoon
at 2 o’clock from the chapel of
Pittman Rawls Funeral Home.
The Rev. Kenneth Stallings will
officiate and burial will be in
Oak Hill cemetery. The body
will remain at the funeral home.

street will be conducted Sunday
afternoon at 3 o’clock from the
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

The home of Robert Burnett
of Blanton Mill road was
burglarized yesterday.
The burglars took a rifle, 19-
inch portable television, and
two gifts which were under the
Christmas tree.
Sheriff’s investigators said
they entered the house by
breaking a glass in the rear
door then reaching through to
unlock it.

another hour of postal service at
the Experiment Post Office.
The petitions being circulated
here ask that the Post Office
resume its 6 p.m. closing and
replace the 5 p.m. closing hour.
Father held
in death
of his son
Jimmy Ridgeway of Green
Valley road was arrested
yesterday on a murder warrant
charging him with the shooting
death of his son, John Willie
Ridgeway, 42, of 524 East
Central avenue.
Sheriff’s officers said Jimmy
Ridgeway shot his son on Nov.
11 during a family argument at
the elder Ridgeway’s home.
One of the bullets lodged near
John Ridgeway’s spine. He died
at the Griffin-Spalding Hospital
on Dec. 6.
The murder warrant was
taken by a Sheriff’s in
vertigator.
