It was reported that Debbie
was coming out from New
York, where she is starring in
“Irene,” for the Christmas
holidays. Glenn took the oc
casion of that announcement
to say that they had been
friends for many years and
that he thought it was going
to work out finally.
But Debbie says the trip for
the holidays is just to spend
Christmas with her family.
It’ll be interesting to see
what happens under the
mistletoe at the Reynolds’
house, come Christmas Eve.
Stacy Keach and Charles
Bronson are talking a deal
for them to costar in a movie
— in which both would be
heavies.
They’re shooting “The
Trial of Billy Jack” in Monu
ment Valley, Ariz., and they
hired some 100 Navajos as
extras and told them to re
port wearing their personal
Indian jewelry.
The wardrobe man became
curious about that jewelry
and examined it — and found
that all the turquoises were
plastic. The Indians ex
plained that the current
craze for Indian jewelry has
reached such proportions
that they’ve all sold every
real turquoise they could find
— including their own — and

DEAR DICK: Can you give me any information regard
ing the identical rings Carroll O’Connor wears on the mid
dle fingers of both hands? -BETTY HAGEN, Menominee.
Mich.
Eagle-eyes Hagen, I bet they call you. But you’re right,
Carroll does wear identical rings on the middle fingers of
both hands. He tells me they were given to him by his grand
father. The reason he wears them on his middle fingers is
that those are the only fingers the rings fit.
DEAR DICK: I am trying to find out if the program
Hollywood Squares is currently being made or is it just
reruns. If it is current, I would like to find out how to apply
to be a contestant. —MRS. GEORGE ZECH, Duncan, Okla.
That program is still being made. I’m told the contestant
picking procedure works as follows: people in the studio au
dience, who watch the show taped in Burbank at the NBC
Studio, are asked to apply if they want to be a contestant.
Staff look over the applications and call back those who in
terest them, these people are interviewed and contestants
picked. You have to be in the studio audience first.
DEAR DICK: Please settle this, so my husband and I can
have some peace in the family again. Who played with
Charlton Heston, and what was the name of the picture that
had the soldier ants? My husband says it was “Encore”
with Grace Kelly and I say it was “Arrowhead” with
Eleanor Parker. -MRS. HERMAN SCHXNAYDER, New
Orleans, La.
You get a C and your husband flunks the course. You were
right about it being Eleanor Parker but the name of the
soldier ant film was “The Naked Jungle.”
DEAR DICK: Can you tell me the name of the female
vocalist who sang “Love Song” on the commercial adver
tising the new series, Love Story? Can you also give me in
formation as to whether it was recorded? —DOROTHY
ODELL, Muncy, Pa.
The singer was Kristen Banfield, a pretty young singer
actress who does the network promos on NBC's Los Angeles
station. The song was recorded and is on RCA.
DEAR DICK: What is the real name of the girl who plays
Erin on the Waltons? How old is she? Where does she live?
—F.D. TURNER, Mobile, Ala.
Mary Elizabeth Catherine Murray McDonoughy, known
professionally as Mary Elizabeth McDonoughy, plays Erin.
She is 12 and lives with her parents in Chatsworth, Calif.

Ruth Gordon is busily at
work. She’s finishing her
autobiography and,
simultaneously, polishing a
play called “Dingaling,” that,
she says, has a great part in it
—for Ruth Gordon.
THE PYSCHIC STARS:
Dinah Shore
One day when Dinah was a
14-year-old high school girl
she was overcome in history
class by a terrible feeling of
depression. She told her
teacher she had to go home.
“You know you can’t do
that.”
“I have to,” Dinah said. “I
have a feeling my mother is
very sick.”
“Nonsense. She spoke to the
PTA last night and she was
fine.”
But Dinah was so over
wrought she ran to the prin
cipals office and asked if she
could call home. They said
that wasn’t allowed but, by
then, she was crying so des
perately they let her call.
The maid answered and
said, “Oh, I’m so glad you
called, Miss Fanny Rose, be
cause your mother’s sick and
I can’t reach the doctor.”
Dinah told the maid to call
another doctor and then she
ran out of school and took the
streetcar home. Ten minutes
after she arrived home, her
mother — who had been in
excellent health when she left
for school that morning —
was dead.
