Ed Crouch, president of Crouch’s in Griffin, has been
elected a director in the National Retail Merchants
Association. He was voted to fill the office for two years at
the 63rd annual convention in New York. Crouch is
president of the Griffin store which will reach its 100th
birthday in four years. Many of the nation’s leading retail
organizations are members of the National Retail
Merchants Association. The organization serves more
than 2,600 member stores. It keeps member stores
abreast of the latest trends and supplies current
information on all phases of retail merchandising. Crouch
Company has been a member over the years and has
found the organization’s services to be of value in its
business activities in Griffin.

Mr. Vickers
Funeral services for Mr.
Riley Morgan Vickers, 75, of
Route one, Flovilla, Ga. will be
held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the
Flovilla Baptist Church with the
Rev. P. M. Newton and the Rev.
James Bohannon officiating.
Burial will be in the Sandy
Creek cemetery in Flovilla.
The body will lie in state at
the funeral home.
Friends may visit the family
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.
H. Cawthon on the Covington
highway, near Jackson.
Mr. Vickers died this morning
while visiting his daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. H.
Cawthon.
A lifelong resident of Butts
County, he was a retired farmer
and a member of the Flovilla
Baptist Church.
His survivors include his
widow Bessie Moore Vickers;
two daughters, Mrs. L. H.
Cawthon, and Mrs. Bobby
Moore, both of Jackson; a son,
Edwin Vickers of Jackson; a
brother W. R. Vickers of
Griffin; two sisters, Mrs. Virgie
Norsworthy of Griffin, and Mrs.
Carl Krest of Shelby, N.C.;
eight grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Haisten Brothers of Jackson
is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Everhart
’ Funeral services for little
Miss Rita Ann Everhart of 630
East Solomon street, infant
daughter of Charles Jones and
Virginia Everhart, will be held
Sunday at 3 p. m. in the chapel of
McDowell United Funeral
Home with the Rev. M. M.
Solomon officiating.
Burial will be in the Red Oak
cemetery in the Birdie com
munity.
Other survivors include a
sister, Miss Terri Denise
Everhart; a brother, Edward
Benson Everhart; a grand
mother, Mrs. Pinkie Harps; and
a great grandfather, Lee
Howard Sr.
The cortege will form at the
residence Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. Thomas
Funeral services for Mrs.
Beauty Thomas of 416 Circus
street, Griffin, will be held
Sunday at 3 p.m. from the
Rising Star Baptist Church with
the Rev. J. C. Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Pine
Grove cemetery in Zebulon.
Her survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Inez Evans of
Griffin; three sons, Cleveland
Thomas of Griffin and Willie C.
Thomas and James Thomas,
both of New York; two brothers,
Will Toland and Karen Toland,
both of Atlanta; 11 grand
children; and several great
grandchildren.
The cortege will form at the
residence Sunday at 2 p.m. and
will be lead by the president and
members of Union Society
Lodge No. 74.

Funeral services for Mr.
Benjamin Franklin Sindorf of
451 Hammond drive, Griffin,
will be held Monday at 11 a.m.
in McDonald Chapel with the
Rev. Evans McMullin of
ficiating.
Burial will be in the
Providence Baptist Church
cemetery in Williamson.
The body will lie in state at
the funeral home.
Mr. Sindorf died Friday
morning at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital.
A veteran of World War n, he
had lived most of his life in
Griffin, where he attended the
Church of Christ.
His survivors include his
widow, Mrs. Idell Ella Conley
Sindorf; two stepsons, John I.
Harper and Joe H. Harper, both
of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother,
Billy Sindorf of Cave Spring,
Ga.; and several nieces and
nephews.
McDonald Chapel is in charge
of arrangements.
Mr. Grubbs
Funeral arrangements for
Mr. Elmo Grubbs of 491 New
street, Griffin will be
announced by Miller’s Funeral
Home.
Mr. Grubbs died Friday
morning at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital.
His survivors include six
nieces, Mrs. Elizabeth Maddox,
Mrs. Lizzie Bell Fon field, and
Mrs. Sarah Johnson, all of
Griffin, Mrs. Mae Lizzie
Brownlee and Mrs. Lucy Mae
Freeman, both of Atlanta, and
Mrs. Tommie Mae Gresham of
Ohio; and four nephews, George
W. Grubbs of Ohio, and Willie
Grubbs, Sam Scott and Robert
Brownlee, all of Atlanta.
Miller’s Funeral Home of
Griffin is in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Josie
Funeral arrangements for
Mrs. Estella Josie of 817 Elbert
street, Atlanta, formerly of
Griffin, will be announced by
McDowell United Funeral
Home of Griffin.
Mrs. Josie died Friday
morning at Grady Memorial
Hospital in Atlanta, where she
was a patient.
Her survivors include a niece,
Mrs. Annie L. Smith.

Mystery
GRINDLEFORD, England
(UPI) — When 11-year-old Julie
Crookes tossed a paper bag
with her name and address on
it into the air on a windy day
last November she thought
she’d seen the last of it.
She hadn’t. The bag came
back recently—from California.
A couple wrote saying they
found it on a street in Atwater.
Meteorologists said the pre
vailing winds might possibly
have carried it to the United
States via Russia. Another
possibility is that it blew onto a
truck or train with cargo
destined for California.
Julie has written the couple
hoping they’ll help her solve the
mystery.
Donehoo
retires
from city
Claude E. Donehoo, 303
Cherokee circle, ended some 16
years of service as city tax
collector yesterday when he
retired from the post.
The Griffin City Com
missioners elected John Dallas
who has filled several ad
ministrative positions with the
city for the last several years.
Donehoo was superin
tendent of Dovedown Hosiery
Mill in Griffin before becoming
tax collector.
He and his wife plan to con
tinue to make their home in
Griffin.
They have two children,
Claude Donehoo, Jr., and Mrs.
Frances Gaddy, both of Griffin.

Marty Burton, highly trained
and talented personal
representatives of Charles
Revson, New York, will be at
Claxton’s Pharmacy Tuesday
from 10-12 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
They will demonstrate using
Revlon’s prestige make-up line,
Ultima.
The two will apply make-up to
local people at no charge for
either consultation or make-up
used.
Claxton’s invited women to
come by and either consult with
the experts or learn how to use
make-up by watching them
work.
The make-up experts will be
Lockheed gets
added loan
WASHINGTON (UPI) - The
Emergency Loan Guarantee
Board approved an additional
S2O million loan to Lockheed
Aircraft Corp. Friday, bringing
the company’s total debt to $220
million.
The loan program was set up
in 1971 to help finance construc
tion of the LlOll Tristar pas
senger jet, now used by com
mercial airlines.

swing through the South.
Claxton’s probably was
selected for the visit because it
is one of the few drug stores in
the nation and the only one in
Griffin to carry Revlon’s
prestige line, Ultima.
Mr. and Mrs. Claxton met
Marty Burton personally in
Chicago last year where Mrs.
Claxton watched him work and
again last October in Portland.
After seeing what he can do,
Mrs. Claxton has been anxious
for the women in Griffin to have
the opportunity to get in
dividualized advice from Marty
Burton, one of the world’s
leading make-up artist.
