League
seeks
opinions
The Griffin League of Women
Voters today urged citizens to
write their local represen
tatives to the General Assembly
and let them know how they
stand on the Equal Rights for
Women (ERA) amendment.
A League spokesman said
some state legislators had
stated they didn’t know how
people felt about the amend
ment.
It may come before the 1974
session of the General
Assembly.
Residents of Griffin and
Spalding County who wish to
express their opinions may
write to Reps. Clayton Brown,
John Carlisle or Sen. Robert
Smalley.
R. Daniel Harris, Jr., has been
appointed quality assurance
manager at West Point Pep
perell’s Lantuck Mill, Fairfax,
Ala. A native of Griffin, Harris
graduated from Georgia Tech
with a degree in textiles. His
wife is the former Joan Blanton
of Griffin. They have a son,
Robert Parks, 3, and live in
West Point, Ga.
Ex-Cel
presented
award
The National Home Awards
organization has presented the
Blue Robbon Home Award to
Ex-Cel Builders & Apartments
of Griffin.
The awards are presented
throughout the country to
outstanding builders.
Kyle T. Cobb is president of
the Griffin firm. H. G. Wiley is
vice president and Jack D.
Tinley is secretary.
The firm specializes in
custom and speculative
building as well as duplexes,
with homes on Kennedy drive.
Few tickets
for Chamber
banquet left
Some 94 tickets are left for the
annual Chamber of Commerce
banquet. It will be held Thur
sday night beginning at 7
o’clock at the Spalding Junior
High II cafeteria.
Miss Marilyn Van Derber,
former Miss America, will be
the speaker.
Only 350 tickets will be
available, the same number as
last year. The program is ex
pected to be a sellout affair.
Members may get tickets
from the Chamber office.
