Litter
case made
Randy G. Griffith, 17, of
Route Four, Box 155 K, Dutch
man road, was charged with
violation of litter laws during
the weekend.
John Stickler of the Griffin
State Patrol Post made the
case, he said, after someone in
the car driven by Griffith threw
a milk carton out.
Stickler had had the car under
surveillance for a mile or so and
stopped it on South Hill street
near the airport.
Interest in littering was
renewed in the community last
week after garden clubs went to
a City Commission meeting to
ask enforcement of anti-litter
laws.

Teddy to go home
BOSTON (UPI) - A spokes
man for the Children’s Hospital
Medical Center says the 12-
year-old son of Sen. Edward M.
Kennedy will be sent home in a
few days after being hospital
ized for treatment to prevent
the resurgence of bone cancer.
He made no statement about
the condition of Edward M.
Kennedy Jr., whose right leg
was removed Nov. 17, but said,
“I would think it would be
fine.”.
Shoplift charged
Two juveniles, a 12-year-old
girl and a boy, 15, were arrested
for shoplifting during the
weekend in separate incidents.
Both arrests were made by
Officer Mike Cobb.
They will face juvenile court
action.

Mrs. Allison
Mrs. Arney Hand Allison, 95,
of Route two, Griffin, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs.
Joseph Garner of Meansville
Sunday morning while on a
visit.
Mrs. Allison, the widow of Mr.
Noah S. Allison, was born in
Bonifay, Fla., but had made her
home in Griffin for 44 years. She
was the daughter of the late
Allen Hand and the late Ruth
Payne Hand.
In addition to her daughter
she is survived by a son, with
whom she made her home,
Charles Allison of Griffin; a
sister, Miss Delia Hand of The
Rock; 10 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren; step
daughter, Mrs. Bertha Pritchett
of Atlanta and a step-son, Er
nest Allison of Thomaston.
Funeral services were held in
Haisten’s chapel this afternoon
at 3 o’clock. The Rev. Bill
Coleman officiated and burial
was in Fairview cemetery.
Haisten Funeral Home was in
charge of plans.

Mrs. Addie Arnold of Atlanta,
formerly of Henry County, died
unexpectedly Sunday af
ternoon.

Mr. Hillard Weems of 810
Booker street died Sunday
afternoon after a lengthy
illness.

Mr. Redding
Mr. Remar Redding, 37, of
Route one, Hampton, died
Sunday afternoon at his
residence.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Nellie Ruth Redding.

Smith Infant
Funeral services for Little
Ezra Smith of Route one,
Milner, 11-month-old infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith,
will be conducted Tuesday at 12
noon from the Springhill Baptist
Church in Milner. The Rey. E.
J. O’Neal will officiate and
burial will be in the church
cemetery.
In addition to his parents,
survivors include three sisters,
Shelia Smith, Sandra Smith and
Claudell Smith; and two
brothers, Edward Smith, Jr.,
and Ezsel Smith, all of Milner.

Burglaries mount
in Griffin area
Burglaries and thefts con
tinue to mount in the city and
county as lawmen investigated
a number of them during the
weekend.
Mrs. Barbara Huggins of
Route Six, Bucksnort road, told
deputies that an RCA color
television, Zenith black and
white tv, shotgun and cannister
of change were taken from her

injured
Four persons were injured in
a collision near Milner Satur
day.
Troopers at the Forsyth
Patrol Post said Roland Rad
ford, 75, and his wife, Martha, of
530 Thomaston street, Barnes
ville, along with two Zebulon
men, R. C. Mangham, 64, and
Tillman Reid were carried to
the Griffin-Spalding Hospital
with injuries.
Mr. and Mrs. Radford were
transferred to Emory Univer
sity Hospital in Atlanta where
Mr. Radford was listed in
serious condition in the in
tensive care unit this morning.
Mrs. Radford is reported in
satisfactory condition. Radford
is a member of the board of
directors of the First National
Bank in Barnesville.
Mangham was admitted to
the Griffin hospital and was
listed in good condition today.
Reid, who was a passenger in
the car driven by Mangham,
was treated in the emergency
room and dismissed.
Troopers said the accident
occurred when Mangham
pulled from the Ethridge Mill
road onto the four-lane in front
of the car driven by Mrs. Rad
ford. The intersection is about
four and a half miles north of
Barnesville.
Four persons were hurt in two
Griffin wrecks Saturday.
Police said Linwood Grant,
72, of Brooks, and Steven Smith
25, of West Quilley street, were
treated at the Griffin Hospital
following a collision of their
cars at Hillwood drive and
Melrose avenue. Both cars were
demolished and a third car
parked at Gene Hayes Motor
Co. lot was slightly damaged
when one of the cars struck it.
Two young women, Georgia
Jean Lovin, 20, of Sunny Side,
and Cherie Francine Newman,
16, of Upland drive, were
checked in the emergency room
when their cars collided on West
Taylor near 14th street around
10 a.m. Saturday.
Man faces
drug charge
A Griffin man was arrested
Saturday and charged with
violation of the Uniform Nar
cotics Drug Act.
Sgt. Glen Whidby of the
Griffin Police drug squad
identified him as Larry “Skull
Sly” Walker, 21, of the Heritage
Apartments, Anne street.
Whidby said some pink
powder was found at Walker’s
apartment during a raid there
on Nov. 22. The state crime lab
reported that the powder was
cocaine and police arrested
Walker at his residence about 5
a.m. Saturday.
He was released from the
couny jail under $2,000 bond.

The burglars entered the
house by breaking out a window
and unlocking the rear door.
Mrs. Rosie Belle O’Neal of
Route Four told police that her
wallet was stolen while she was
washing clothes at the Sunshine
Laundry. She said she told her
child to hold her puse and and
the wallet was stolen when the
child put the purse down to play.
It contained a small amount
of money, she said.
Mrs. Robert Lewis of
Hallyburton street complained
that someone stole an old
fashioned iron wash pot from
under her house.
Police received two reports of
stolen bicycles.
Miss Linda Brown of Cabin
Creek drive said an orange
bike, valued at $75, was taken
from her yard.
Jeanette Jackson, 117
Crawford street, reported that a
20-inch boys bike was stolen
from her home.
A new battery was stolen
from a car parked in a Spalding
street yard. Margaret Cham
bers owned the auto.
Someone shot out the
bathroom window at the home
of Anthony Ellis 608 North Sixth
street. Police were in
vestigating.

Shortage helps
MILAN, Italy (UPI) - The j
gasoline shortage helped foil a •
burglary of a pharmaceutical ;
supply firm over the weekend. :
Police said the thieves broke :
into the place, loaded cartons of :
loot on to a truck and drove :
away. They got only a few ■
blocks before the truck ran out :
of gas. The burglars left the :
truck where it stalled and :
police recovered the loot.

secretary, will be the shut-in for
February. The group drew
names for secret pals. After the
meeting, Mrs. Middlebrooks
served a buffet supper to the
eight members present.
