Airline charter
to be based here
Griffin soon will be the head
quarters for an airline charter
service, the first of its kind in
the state.
According to Academy
Airlines President Bob Mc-
Swiggan, within the next two
weeks, his firm will begin
chartering flights for both
passengers and freight to cities
within a radius of 500 to 600
miles from Griffin.
At first one plane with a 27-
passenger capacity will be in
service. In a few months the line
hopes to have around five of the
Douglas DC-3’s.
The planes were purchased
from Ozark Airlines and are in
top condition, McSwiggan said.
They will have a crew of three
—a pilot, co-pilot and
stewardess.
He explained that even
though Griffin will be the home
base, most of the flights will
take off from Atlanta or Bir
mingham, as the runways here
are too short to take off with a
full load without refueling
somewhere along the way.
Otherwise, area residents could
board the plane here.
McSwiggan is negotiating
with hockey and ball officials in
Memphis and Atlanta to carry
teams to out of town sports
events for the entire season. He
expects to have one plane for
university or professional foot
ball, hockey, or basketball
teams and another plane for the
spectators who want to see out
of town games.
In the future, he hopes to
carry chartered flights to any
state, Canada and the
Bahamas. His planes will be
available to any group who
wants to go somewhere whether
it be a weekend at Disney World
or a scuba diving jaunt to the
Bahamas, he added
Science
fair
planned
The eighth annual Griffin
Area Science Fair will be held
February 14-15 at the Stuckey
auditorium of the Georgia
Experiment Station.
The fair allows students in
grades 7-12 to exhibit research
projects and if it shows merit to
go on to the Mid-Georgia
Science Fair in Macon during
March and possibly the Georgia
Science and Engineering Fair
in Athens during April.
The purpose of the research
project is for students to learn
how to isolate a problem, in
vestigate that problem, and
hopefully, solve that problem in
an organized, logical manner.
The public is invited to visit
the Science Fair Feb. 14 from 2-
5 p.m. and Feb 15 from 8-5.

1040-A form and showed them
how to fill out each line.
