Auxiliary ball had
fantasy land theme
The twelfth annual hospital
auxiliary ball was held last
night at the Elks Club, the
theme being “Through the
Looking Glass.”
Guests entered through the
ivy arched portal into the en
chanting storybook kingdom of
“Alice in Wonderland.” Little
Alice, with the giant white
rabbit, mammoth flower
trellises and colorful large
mushrooms were featured in
the lobby and a musical ren
dition of the story was played.
The “Mad Hatter" greeted
the guests with his quizzical
questions and quotes.
The ballroom was trans
formed into a fantasy land with
a revolving silver chandelier
and glittering stars suspended
from the ceiling. Black lights
reflected on the large hand
painted wall mural of Alice,
drawn by Mrs. Cliff Beckham.
Mammoth rose flowers,
storybook characters of the
Queen of Hearts, Tweedle-dee
and Tweedle-dum, The Card
Men and the Dizzy Daffodils
encircled the area. A picket
fence fronted the bandstand.
Each club area depicted
segments of the story. Dinner
was served from 7 to 9, with
musical selections of Mrs.
Emily Harris at the piano. The
buffet table was centered with a
floral arrangement of hot pink
carnations, white and yellow
pompoms, snap dragons,
yellow and white daisies, dutch
iris, baby breath and
eucalyptus in a large antique
cut glass vase. Matching five
branch silver candelabras with
lighted pink tapers flanked
each side.
Yellow, green and hot pink
tablecloths covered the guest
tables, each centered with
glowing candle globes, en
circled by minature
mushrooms.
Pete Snider, chairman of the
hospital authority and ball
master of ceremonies, in
troduced Mrs. Lewis Simonton,
auxiliary president. Mrs.
Simonton extended a
welcome to all and defined the
objective of the auxiliary in
providing services to the
hospital. She introduced the co
chairmen of the ball Mrs. Alex
Stewart and Mrs. Lawrence
Alston.
