LaGrange wins, 13-4
Griffin defense
falls apart
Strong pitching and a tight
defense were Griffin’s strong
suit.
That’s the way it was until
yesterday when the LaGrange
Grangers spoiled the Bears’ 6-0
record with a 13-4 victory.
The loss left Griffin with a 1-1
region chart and 6-1 overall.
LaGrange is 3-0 against region
competition.
Until yesterday Griffin had
survived six games with its
good pitching, strong defense
and adquate hitting.
The pitching and defense
collapsed before the LaGrange
attack.
Two Griffin hurlers allowed a
dozen hits and the defense, that
had made only two or three
errors this season, made six in
the region match-up.
“LaGrange is the best team
we have played so far,” Coach
Bobby Gene Pierce said. “We
made them look better than
they are,” he added.
Coach Pierce said his team
“looked bad” in the field.
Chuck Dunn was Griffin’s
starting pitcher. He worked five
innings, allowing six hits,
striking out seven and walking
two. Eight runs scored while he
was pitching.
Joe McGee pitched two in
nings. He struck out two,
walked two, gave up six hits and
five runs scored while he was on
the mound.
Tennis courts
to be closed
The Griffin-Spalding Recrea
tion Department announced
today that the tennis courts at
City Park will be closed Thurs
day through Sunday.
The department will begin
resurfacing the courts
tomorrow.
