WEEKEND REVIVAL
A weekend revival began
tonight at Wildwood Baptist
Church with the Rev. David
Ramey of the Hillside Baptist
Church in Palmetto conducting
the services. Services will begin
each night at 7:30 p.m. The Rev.
Guy Starrett is the pastor.
Change stolen
Change was stolen from the
drink box at Joe’s American
Station at 101 Broadway last
night.
Police were investigating.

Griffin police were
questioning three suspects in
connection with an armed
robbery which took place last
night at Bill’s Service Station,
803 East Broadway.
W. R. Copeland, the operator,
said two black males came into
his station about 8:45 p.m. They
drew a pistol on him and took an
undisclosed amount of money
from the cash drawer, he said.

Mrs. Barnes
Mrs. Wylene Nolen Barnes,
75, of Flovilla died Thursday
night at Hilltop Nursing Home
in Monroe County after being a
patient for a week. She had
previously suffered a stroke and
had been a patient at the
Griffin-Spalding Hospital.
Mrs. Barnes was bom in
Butts County, daughter of the
late Wesley Nolen and the late
Addie Maddox Nolen. She was a
member of the Flovilla Baptist
Church.
She is survived by her
husband, George D. Barnes of
Floville; a daughter, Mrs. W. P.
James of Decatur; grandson,
W. P. James, Jr., of Flovilla;
two great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Miss Emmie Nolen of
Jenkinsburg.
Funeral services will be
conducted Saturday afternoon
at 2 o’clock in the chapel of
Haisten Funeral Home in
Jackson. The Rev. James
Bohannan will officiate and
burial will be in Flovilla
cemetery. The body will remain
at the funeral home in Jackson.

groundbreak
set April 23
Ground breaking for Southern
Bell’s new district headquarters
will take place on Tuesday,
April 23, at 2:00 p.m., according
to Bill Byram, district
manager. An announcement
was made last week of the
company’s plans to construct
the facility at a cost of over
$750,000. It will be located on
Highway 41, near Harlow
avenue.
“The announcement last
week has created a great deal of
interest,” said Byram, “and we
want all of our friends to come
out to the site, on Tuesday, and
be with us as construction
begins.”
Tallulah Falls
school has
additions
Members of the Griffin
Women’s Club and the Griffin
Junior Women’s have been
invited to attend opening day of
two new additions at Tallulah
Falls School on Aug. 5.
Tallulah Falls Schools,
located at Tallulah Gorge on
Cherokee Mountain in northeast
Georgia, between Gainesville
and Clayton, is owned and
supported by the Georgia
Federation of Women’s Clubs,
since 1909. It is a fully ac
credited school.
One of the school’s additions
include a summer camp for
students who have completed
grades 6,7, or 8, housed on the
campus of Tallulah Falls
School. The 600 acre camp is
located in the mountains of
northeast Georgia and ac
tivities will include all sports,
hiking, swimming and etc. The
camp is scheduled for two
weeks.
The Tallulah Gallery and
Patio is the second addition.
This will be operated by the
Tallulah Falls School with the
proceeds going into the school’s
scholarship fund. There will be
a food area, shopping area and
an exhibit of original local art;
pottery, wood, sculpture. This
will also provide an extension of
the school’s efforts in art and
industrial arts as a display for
student projects.

Camporee to draw 200 Scouts
Boy Scouts from the Griffin
area will be held at Camp
Thunder Boy Scout Reservation
today through Sunday. Dr. Dale
Carley announced 200 Scouts
and leaders were registered.
Carley indicated the event will
be a combination service
project and patrol competition
event.

for use during summer camp.
In the afternoon, events chair
man, Ron Lane will conduct a
competitive skill contest. Scouts
will test their skills at rope
tossing and knot typing,
building and racing a chariott,
archery, pitching tents, and a
tug-o-war.
Chairman Carley encouraged
the public to attend the cam
poree on Saturday to see Scouts
in action. He stated that the
camporee, sponsored by the
Griffin Kiwanis Club, will be
concluded with awards
presented to top patrols. Each
scout participant will receive a
fully embroidered arrow head
patch from the Kiwanis Club
Scout COMMITTEE.
