B.A. in mathematics.

She attended Columbia College

receive her AB degree from the
University of Georgia in June.

Miss Mary Tarrant Hancock
and Mr. Kenneth Harris Nance
were united in marriage at the
West Rome Baptist Church in
Rome Saturday, April 13 at 4
o’clock. The Rev. Jerry Vines
performed the double ring cere
mony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Leroy
Hancock of Rome and the
groom is the son of Mrs. Lewis
Wendell Nance and the late Mr.
Nance of Griffin.

Griffin and Mrs. James Glen
Nance of Greenville, S.C.
registered guests as they en
tered the church.
Pre-nuptial music was
presented by Mrs. Wayne
Dempsey, organist. As the
couple knelt, Mrs. John Phillips
of Birmingham, sang “The
Wedding Prayer”.
Mr. James Glen Nance of
Greenville, brother of the
groom, served as best man.
Usher-groomsmen were Mr.
Robin Wendell Nance of Griffin,
brother of the groom; Mr.
William Edward Ridley of
Decatur; Mr. Leslie George
Brown of Gainesville and Mr.
Ronald Edward Carter of
Covington.
Mrs. Bill Cothran of Fort
Worth, Tex. and Mrs. Victor
Allred of Marietta were the
honor attendants. They wore
floor length gowns of ivory
crepe posed over taffeta
designed with princess lines and
an empire waistline. A deep
cape collar, edged with ivory
alencon lace, accented the low
neckline and fell over the
shoulders to form soft cap
sleeves.
The junior bridesmaid, Miss
Martha Caroline Nance, niece
of the groom of Greenville, was
similarly attired. Each of the
attendants had tiny sprigs of
gypsophilia tucked in her hair
and carried a colonial nosegay
of gardenias tied with green
velvet tubing.
The bride’s gown was of
candlelight silk organza and
peau d’ange lace. The empire
bodice was covered with the
lace and seed pearls and lace
formed a sculptured neckline.
Lace appliques were lavishly
scattered on the A-line skirt and
the lace and organza created
lantern sleeves. Peau d’ange
lace bordered her detachable
silk organza train and her
elbow-length mantilla was of
ivory Brussels lace. The gown

journalism from the University
of Georgia. He is presently
employed by the Elliott-Stripe
Company of Griffin.
The wedding is planned for
June 29 at the First Presby
terian Church in Barnesville.
Miss Carol Smith
to marry Mr. Hill
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith of
Orchard Hill announce the
engagement and forthcoming
marriage of their daughter,
Miss Carol Juanita Smith, to
Mr. Haskell Homer Hill, Jr., son
of Mr. and Mrs. Haskell H. Hill
of Orchard Hill.
The bride-elect will graduate
from Griffin High in May and
from Griffin Tech in September
as an accounting major.
Mr. Hill is a 1973 graduate of
Griffin High School and is
presently attending Middle
Georgia College. He will
complete his studies in June.
The wedding will be held June
21 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchard Hill
Baptist Church. No invitations
will be sent but all friends and
relatives are invited.

Mrs. Kenneth Harris Nance
and mantilla were loaned to the
bride by her close friend, Mrs.
David W. Bowen of Rome. To
complete her attire, the bride
carried a white Bible, gift from
her parents, topped with a semi
cascade of white butterfly ros
es, stephanotis and gypsophilia.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Hancock chose a formal
gown of pale yellow raw silk of a
shirtwaist design. She wore a
corsage of yellow roses.
The groom’s mother, Mrs.
Nance, was attired in a peach
crepe gown with matching
beading at the V-neckline and
on the long fitted sleeves. Her
corsage was a Royal Bouquet
white orchid.
Following the wedding, Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Robinson and Dr.
and Mrs. Elio Sanchez hosted a
reception honoring their niece
and her groom at the home of
the bride’s parents.
The cake was served by Mrs.
William Edward Ridley of
Decatur and Mrs. David W.
Bowen of Rome.
Mrs. Byron Phillips, cousin of
the bride, of Rome and Mrs.
Wendell Norton of Rome poured
the fruit punch.
During the reception, piano
selections were played by Mrs.
Dick Childers.
When the couple left on their
wedding trip, the bride wore a
soft weave dress of kelly green
with a matching jacket. A
yellow rosebud corsage was
pinned to her jacket and she
wore a strand of pearls, a gift
from the groom.
After April 22, Mr. and Mrs.
Nance will be at home in the
Colonial Pines Apartments.
Among the out-of-town guests
were Mrs. Edna M. Brock, Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Carden, Mrs. Mary
V. Adams, Mrs. Roy Casey,
Miss Nedra Casey, all of
Griffin.

The marriage of Miss
Deborah Susan Estes to Mr.
Marion Allen Smith was
solemnized recently at the First
Baptist Church in Griffin. The
Rev. Bruce Morgan performed
the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James Howell
Estes of Griffin. The groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Marion Smith of Atlanta.
Mrs. Grace Scholl, organist,
and Mr. Frank Thomas, soloist,
presented a program of wed
ding music.
Mr. John Marion Smith
served as his son’s best man.
Ushers were Mr. Mike Estes of
Griffin, brother of the bride;
Mr. Dale Goldin and Mr. Carl
Britt, both of Atlanta.
Miss Connie Estes, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss Eliza
beth McKibben, Miss Susan
Darsey and Miss Donna Folds,
all of Griffin.
The attendants wore long
dresses of periwinkle blue crepe
featuring white collars, tie sash
and long sleeves. They carried
bouquets of yellow carnations.
Mary Suttles of College Park,
cousin of the bride, was flower
girl.
Jim Suttles of College Park,
cousin of the bride, served as
ringbearer.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a wedding
gown of ivory satin. The gown
featured a sweetheart neckline
with sheer yoke and appliques
of reembroidered alencon lace.
The gown had short sleeves and
a cathedral train. The wedding
gown was worn by the bride’s
mother. The bride’s three tiered
veil of silk illusion was attached
to a Juliet cap of alencon lace.
She carried a nosegay of spring
flowers centered with an orchid.
Following the wedding a
reception was held in the
Cheatham Auditorium.
Serving at the reception were
Mrs. June Folds, aunt of the
bride; Mrs. Nancy Feltman,
cousin of the bride; Miss Jan
Smith, sister of the groom; Mrs.
Frances Folds and Mrs. Rosa
Callaway.
Mrs. J. I. Blankenship
catered the reception.
Dottie Suttles, Dana Folds,
cousins of the bride, and Tina
Smith, sister of the groom, gave
out rice bags.
Susan Whidby, cousin of the
bride, kept the bride’s book.
For a wedding trip to
Savannah, the bride wore a blue
suit with red accessories. She
