— Griffin Daily News Friday, September 13,1974 Page 2 Parolee arrested in check case A young Griffin man who had been released on parole from a sentence for forging checks was rearrested yesterday and charged with the same offense. According to Sgt. Richard Cantrell of the Spalding Sheriffs Department, Richard Wayne Chambley, 20, of Route Seven, had been convicted and ' sentenced for forging 14 checks. The checks had been stolen from Philips Brooks of Wood land drive and were issued by the Commercial Bank and Trust Co. Chambley is accused of making the checks payable to himself, signing Philips Brooks’ Heavy Particle The negatively charged electron and the positively charged proton are particles of the atom. Solids p rtatg . name, and endorsing his name, Richard Chambley, on the back. He was given a prison sen tence for the offense but had been released on parole. Yesterday he was arrested again and charged with forging four of the checks and cashing them at local businesses. Twenty-dollar checks were forged and cashed at Hospital Discount Drugs, Inc. on South Eighth street, Beal’s Pharmacy on South Eighth, and the College-Hill American Service Station on South Hill. A forged check for $52 was cashed at the Bank of Griffin. Sgt. Cantrell said more of the checks are expected to show up and asked any merchants who see or have the checks to con tact him at the sheriff’s depart ment. When Chambley was taken into custody yesterday, stolen credit cards also were found in his possession, Sgt. Cantrell said. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles also has issued a warrant for Chambley for violation of probation. Investigator David Head was assisting in the investigation. •X X | Deaths-Funerals | Beavers Infant Little Edward Coleman Beavers, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jasper Beavers, Sr., of 567 West Quilley street, was dead on arrival at the Griffin-Spalding Hospital this morning. In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Thomas J. Beavers, Jr.; grand parents, Mrs. Ruby Pauline Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Billy C. Beavers; great-grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Holman and Mrs. Opal Ford; great - great-grandparents, Mrs. Nellie Beavers, Mrs. Henry T. Holman and Jack A. Fogarty; step-grandfather, Hayward Smith and several aunts and uncles. Funeral plans will be an nounced by McDonald Chapel. Mrs. Milling Mrs. Luconia Milling, 89, of Greenville, formerly of Pike County, died Thursday night at the residence of her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Henry of Greenville. Funeral plans will be an nounced by Union Society Funeral Home of Concord. Mrs. Arnold Funeral services for Mrs. Mandy Arnold of Atlanta road will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Achaia Baptist Church. The Rev. H. H. Hatchett will of ficiate and burial will be in Union cemetery. Millers Funeral Home is in charge of plans. Survivors include her husband, Willie Arnold of Griffin. Mr. Barber Mr. Robert C. Barber, 17, of Roberta, was dead on arrival at the Medical Center of Georgia in Macon Thursday. Funeral plans and survivors will be announced by McDonald Chapel. Man held in pill case Charles R. Wessman, 57, of Route Two, Box 1088, Hampton, was arrested in Griffin yester day and charged with violating the Georgia Controlled Sub stance Act when a quantity of pills was found in his possess ion. The arrest was made around 7 p.m. at 11th and Wall streets by Agents Dean Ray and John Arthur of the Griffin Police Narcotics Division. Four or five different kinds of pills which were not in prescrip tion containers were found. Club outlines activities for new year The Variety Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Adelle Stokes on North Fourth street. The president, Mrs. Frances Calloway, presided. The meeting was opened with prayer. The social committee outlined a program of activities for the year. A full course dinner was served. Eleven members were present. Benson announce the birth of a daughter Sept. 9 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. The mother is the former Jan Pyron. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Pyron of Griffin.
