Utility Club sees restored home

Spalding Historical and Preservation Society has led the
effort to make the home into a place of historical interest
and preserve part of the community’s past.
R.N., and Miss Barbara Henderson (r), a 1974 Griffin
High graduate. Clearance Whatley, coordinator of the
Work Samfrie Evaluation Center at Griffin Tech received
SIOO from the club to be used in his work.

Decker is losing his job today,
but he’s not too worried about j
the future.
Decker won the $300,000 first \
prize Thursday in the weekly
Illinois Lottery Bonanza dra
wing, and the windfall couldn’t
have come at a better time.
The 40-year-old bachelor is
one of the reporters and
photographers who will be out
of work when Chicago Today
publishes its last edition today.
He said he planned to do
some fishing, but had no other
specific plans. The money will
be paid in 15 annual $20,000
installments.
“I don’t know what I’m going
to do with it,” he said. He
added, however, that he
planned to continue to look for
a job.

Mrs. Duffey
Mrs. Ruby Dallas Partridge
Duffey of 217 Laramie road,
Hillandale, died at the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital yesterday
morning. She was the widow of
Obrie Manning Duffey, Sr., and
observed his 84th birthday
Aug. 26.
She was a native of Alabama.
She came to Griffin from
Orlando, Fla., to be with her son
a month ago.
Mrs. Duffey for many years
was a resident of Forsyth.
She was a member of the
Rock Springs United Methodist
Church Dadeville, Ala.
Survivors include a son, Obrie
Manning Duffey, Jr., of Griffin;
three daughters, Mrs. E. G.
Lewis of Anchorage, Alaska,
Mrs. Philip M. Davis of
Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. J.C.
Sumner of Sylvester, Ga.; eight
grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. L.
E. Bustle of Brandenton, Fla.;
three nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday at 1 p.m. in Haisten’s
Chapel. The Rev. Lamar
Cherry will officiate. Burial
services will be at 4:30 p.m.
(Georgia time) at Rock Springs
United Methodist Church
cemetery near Dadeville,
Ala. The Rev. Robert Partridge
will conduct the graveside
services.
Mr. Chambley, Jr.
Mr. Robert Milton (Bob)
Chambley, Jr., of 110 Second
avenue, died early last night at
the Griffin-Spalding Hospital
shortly after being admitted.
He was taken there after
being stricken ill.
A native of Upson County, he
was the son of the late Mr.
Robert Milton Chambley and
the late Mrs. Allie Lee Cowan
Chambley. He had made his
home in Griffin 46 years.
Survivors include three
sisters, Mrs. John O. Waldrop,
Mrs. Louise Force and Mrs.
Tom Penn, a brother, W. G.
Chambley, a sister-in-law, Mrs.
Ellen Chambley, and a nephew,
Melvin Chambley, all of Griffin.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock
from the Chapel of Pittman-
Rawls Funeral Home. The Rev.
Earl Howard and the Rev.
Robert Watts will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill
cemetery.
The body will remain at the
funeral home until the services.
Friends may visit the family at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John
O. Waldrop, 110 First avenue.

Mrs. Speir
Mrs. Malissa Laney Speir, 88,
of Route Two, Jackson, Ga.,
died yesterday afternoon at
Westbury Nursing Home in
McDonough
She was the widow of Mr. Ira
Thomas Speir and was a native
of Henry County. She was a
member of the Sandy Creek
Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Thomas W.
Childs of Atlanta and Mrs. Otho
J. Morgan of Jackson; two sons,
Irs Laney Speir of Phenix City,
Ala., and Lemuel Thomas Speir
of Mableton, Ga.; a sister, Mrs.
Elon Bobo of Forest Park; a
brother, Emmett Laney of Rex,
Ga., nine Grandchildren and 12
great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel
of Haisten Funeral Home in
Jackson. The Rev. R. W.
Jenkins and Elder Paul Mann
will officiate. Burial will be in
Bersheba Primitive Baptist
Church cemetery in Henry
County.

Funeral services for Mrs.
Luconia Millen, 89, of Route
Two, Greenville, Ga., formerly
of Pike County, will be held
today at 3 p.m. at Sunny Side
Baptist Church in Gay, Ga. The
Rev. W. H. Hubbard will of
ficiate. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Survivors include a brother,
Bud Reese and:a niece and
nephew Mr. and Mrs. Tommy
F. Henry, all of Greenville and
several other nieces and
nephews.
