Newt Gingrich will be in Griffin
tomorrow and Wednesday
nights to talk politics and attend
a fund raising fish fry. He’ll talk
to the Griffin Chapter of the
Georgia Conservancy at 7:30
tomorrow night at the Commer
cial Bank & Trust Co. The
public is invited. Gingrich will
attend a fish fry Wednesday
night at city park beginning at 7
o’clock. Tickets are $5 each.
He’ll talk for about 20 minutes
on the need for responsive
government and answer
questions about his campaign.
He’s a Republican candidate for
congress in the Sixth District.
He will oppose incumbent Jack
Flynt, Jr., of Griffin.

Revival opens
The Rev. Euell Gilstrap of
College Park will conduct
revival services this week at the
North Griffin Congregational
Holiness Church. Services will
begin each night at 7:30.
The pastor is the Rev. J. J.
Stephens.

Couple questioned
in theft probe
Griffin police were
questioning a man and his wife
this morning in connection with
some burglary tools which were
found in the Experiment
Shopping Center.
Police officers on patrol in
Experiment saw a man come
out of the washerette there
around 5:30 this morning.
After he left, they checked the
building and discovered some
burglary tools in the rest room
of the washerette, which is next
to Bowen’s Pharmacy.
The officers staked out the
building and later a couple
returned to the washerette.
The two, who were uniden
tified, were taken to the police
department for further
questioning.
Former Griffinite
teaches writing
M’Nelle Causey of Athens
who grew up in Griffin will have
busy fall quarter schedules on
three college campuses
teaching writing courses. She’s
a successful free lance journa
list and teacher.
“Writing for Fun and Profit”
will be the course she’ll teach at
Clayton Junior College Oct. 3-
Nov. 14. The $25 course will be
from 10 a.m. till 12:30 p.m.
She’ll teach “How To Write
and Market Non-Fiction” at
Emory University (S3O) Sept.
26-Nov. 14.
The writer-teacher will
present “Public Relations:
Making the Media Work for
You”, at Oglethorpe University
(S3O) from 7:30 till 9:30 p.m.

VFW, AUXILIARY
The regular monthly meeting
of VFW Post 5448 and the
Auxiliary will meet tonight,
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Youths charged
Three juveniles, 12,13, and 14-
years-old were arrested yester
day afternoon and charged with
stealing a carton of cigarets
from an auto.
They were released to the
custody of their parents pending
juvenile court action.
Sgt. Herman Parker and
Officer Wally Brown made the
arrests.
Bikes stolen
Sheriff’s officers were looking
for two bicycle thieves.
A boy’s bike was reported
stolen from the residence of
Terry Lowery, 1330 Zebulon
road.
Tyler Powers of 120
Woodlawn avenue reported a 26-
inch girl’s bike was taken from
his residence.
Anti-freeze theft
A 19-year-old Griffinite,
identified as James Prather,
was arrested by Capt.
Lawrence Miller and Officer
Mike Cobb on charges of
stealing three gallons of anti
freeze from an auto parked on
South Fifth street.
The anti-freeze was worth
about sls, police said.
New DE Club officers
Wrecks
injure
eight
At least eight persons were
hurt in area weekend traffic
accidents.
Wayne Thompson, eitht-year
old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Thompson of Route One,
Brooks, suffered serious in
juries in a mini-bike accident
near his home Sunday afternoon
around 4 o’clock.
He was admitted to the
Griffin-Spalding Hospital for
treatment of head and jaw
injuries, two broken arms and
lacerations. Last night he was
transferred to Georgia Baptist
Hospital in Atlanta for further
treatment.
Last night two Concord
teenagers were injured when
their truck ran out of control on
a curve about 1.5 miles north of
Griffin on Ga. 3.
They were identified by the
Griffin Post of the Georgia State
Patrol as William C. Lehsten,
17, and Stevie Raymond
Williams, 19, both of Route One,
Concord.
Both were treated in the
Griffin hospital emergency
room.
Mrs. Sara Lurline Williams of
431 Tilney avenue was injured
Saturday in a three-car collision
at South Hill and College street.
Police identified the other
drivers as Mary Louise Rasaw,
1122 George circle, and Henry
Franklin Smith, 315 Crescent
road.
Mrs. Betty F. Wray of
Chestnut street, Experiment,
was treated at the Griffin
hospital for face lacerations she
suffered when her car left the
road, ran down a steep em
bankment and into some trees
on North Hill extension
Saturday afternoon.
A woman and two children
were injured Saturday in a
collision on North 13th and
Wright streets.
Mrs. Betty Roberts of Route
One suffered back and leg in
juries when her auto collided
with a car driven by Mrs. Alvita
Calhoun of 615 Northside drive.
Mrs. Calhoun’s children,
Harvette Calhoun, five, and
Anjannette Calhoun, seven, also
were injured slightly, lawmen
said.
EXCHANGE CLUB

Griffin High Bears will speak to
the Exchange Club tomorrow at
noon at the Elks Club. Nat
Bailey will be the program

on flower show

Camellia Garden Club was held
at the Holiday Inn with Mrs. J.

Two charged
in pills cases
Griffin police arrested two
persons in separate incidents
over the weekend and charged
them with violation of the
state’s Controlled Substance
Act when pills were found in
their possession.
Regenia Tyler, 26, of 220-B
Tuskeegee avenue was taken
into custody around 9:45 Satur
day night.
Police stopped Sam Sinkfield,
22, of 1020 Bolton road, Atlanta,
Sunday around 7:45 for speed
ing. During a routine check,
officers found some pills on his
person and a bottle of pills in his
auto.
