WHO ARE
THE LUTHERANS??
WE hav. bmn a vital part ot Georgia's early history, stemming from the
Salzburgers who settled at Ebenezer In 1734. The first governor of Georgia,
John Adam Treutlen was a Salzburger Lutheran ...
WE have over 30 Lutheran congregations In the Metropolitan Atlanta Area,
with a combined membership of 11,000 In the three ma|or Lutheran groups...
WE are the original Protestants who under th. leadership of Martin Luther,
became the motivating Instruments of the Reformation.
WE celebrate LIFE IN CHRIST who Is the Lord of His people, the Church,
and the personal Savior of all who name Him In their hearts. He reveals to us
His Saving Grace... which frees mon to serve HIM...
WE believe that FAITH IS MORE than accepting Ideas ... It Is a living,
active commitment to the PERSON of Jesus, and away of life that Is Spirit
led . . .
WE want to share the GOOD NEWS of the GOSPEL of love and fellowship
through our homes and Church and therefore:

halftime lead.
The rout continued in the
third as the girls built a 45-18
lead.
Coach Oglesby then lifted his
starters and the reserves
finished up.
“It was our best overall
game,’’ Coach Oglesby said.
“Morrow brought a good
team to Griffin. I scouted them
Tuesday and they showed a
sound squad. They stayed with
us for one period,” the Coach
said.
Morrow went down for a shot
to start the second quarter. The
shot was missed and Griffin got
the rebound.
Over three minutes elapsed
before Morrow got the ball
across the center line again.
The visitors could not solve the
Griffin press carried out by the
rovers with help from forwards.
Morrow’s only field goal in
the second quarter came with
only a minute left in the half.
They took only five shots.
“Our defense was unbelieve-
able,” Coach Oglesby said.
“When Morrow got the ball
across center line, the
stationary guards wouldn’t let
them get off any shots,” he
added.
The defense was thrown up by
Portia Vaughn, Claire Ann
Mankin, Monte Carlo Gilford,
Retha Daniels, Larita Foster,
Paula Westmoreland, Karen
Fennell, Channel Parks and
Jodye Newbern.
“It was a complete team
effort,” Coach Oglesby said.
The quarter scores were 10-
10, 34-14 and 45-18.
Portia Vaughn pumped in 20
points for Griffin. Paula
Westmoreland and Retha
Daniels had 10, Jodye Newbern
seven, Cathy Coker four and
Lisa Green one.
Griffin will play Pike here
today.
The “B” team girls take the
court about 4:15 and the varsity
game will begin about 5:30.
The girls will compete in a
holiday tournament next week
at Lamar County. Besides
Griffin and Lamar, Jackson and
Mary Persons of Forsyth will be
in the two-day tournament.
Jackson won the tournament
last year. Griffin was runner
up.
