Mrs. Winter
discusses
seal history
Mrs. Thorn Winter, civic
development chairman for the
Garden Clubs of Georgia, was
the speaker at the January
meeting of the Garden Club of
Griffin.
Mrs. Winter gave a talk on the
origin and history of the seal of
the United States.
The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. William S. Colvin.
President, Mrs. W. S. McDaniel,
presided during the meeting.
A nominating committee was
appointed as follows: Mrs.
James Duffes, chairman; Mrs.
Andrew Blake and Mrs. Charlie
Smith.
Mrs. Tom Pollard assisted the
hostess in serving tea to the 20
members present.

legislative days, has been
unable to select a new speaker.
The old record was 76 ballots.

The Griffin-Spalding
Jaycettes’ January meeting has
been rescheduled for Thursday,
Jan. 30, at the Moose Club, at 7
p.m.
ANNIVERSARY
St. Phillips gospel choir will
celebrate its fifth anniversary
on Sunday with a special
program beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Sister Pope and the Pearly
Gates will be among the guests.
The Rev. R. B. Fortson is the
pastor.
GARDEN CLUB
The Evergreen Garden Club
will meet Monday night at 7:30
p.m. at the home of Mrs. Kathy
Goldstein, 1305 Grantland drive.

Mr. Brown
Mr. Ronco Emerson Brown of
1324 South Cherokee avenue
was dead on arrival at the
Griffin-Spalding Hospital
Wednesday evening.
Mr. Brown was a native of
Upson County and had made his
home in Griffin for 46 years. He
was the son of the late Joseph
Emerson Brown and the late
Pearl Hardage Brown. Mr.
Brown was retired from the
City Wholesale Co., and the
Service Wholesale Co. He was a
veteran of World War One,
serving in the Army and was a
member of the American
Legion Post 15.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Mattie Fowler Brown; two
nephews, the Rev. Lanier
Beasley of Milledgeville and
Ligon Brown of Fort Valley.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday afternoon at 3
o’clock from the chapel of
Pittman Rawls Funeral Home.
The Rev. Warren Bedingfield
will officiate and burial will be
in Oak Hill cemetery. The body
will remain at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jones
Mrs. Hattie Mae Jones of 406
East Chappell street died
Wednesday at the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was the widow of
the Rev. T. W. Jones and was a
member of the Eight Street
Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Rincell Perry of Newark,
N.J.; two sons, Alton Jones and
James Jones, both of New
Jersey; three sisters, Mrs.
Beatrice Johnson of Chat
tanooga, Tenn., Mrs. Cecil
Thomas and Mrs. Kate
Strickland, both of Molena; two
brothers, George Hines of
Tennessee and T. A. Hines of
Molena; and other relatives.
Funeral plans will be an
nounced by Millers Funeral
Home.
Mr. Tuggle
Mr. Jesse F. Tuggle of Route
one, Griffin, died Wednesday at
his residence after several
weeks of illness.
Mr. Tuggle was a lifelong
resident of Spalding County and
was a member of the Mt.
Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son,
Horace Tuggle of Griffin.
Funeral plans will be an
nounced by McDowell United
Funeral Home.
Church begins
weekend
revival
Weekend revival services
began last night at the West
Griffin Congregational Holiness
Church and will continue
through Sunday night.
Evangelist Ed McGowan of
Atlanta will be the guest
minister.
Services begin each night at
7:30 p.m. except Sunday night
at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Lewis James is the
pastor. The church is located at
727 West Quilley street.
