Washington
chairman
Fred Washington is the new
chairman of Griffin Legion of
Moose 1503, succeeding Lamar
McGuffey, who resigned.
Washington was prelate of the
Griffin chapter prior to
accepting the chairmanship.
Washington will make his
debut as head of the group, the
largest in Chattahooche Council
130, Friday night when the
chapter convenes at Moose
Lodge. He will also announce
appointments of a prelate and a
sergeant-at-arms at the
meeting.
The confab will get under way
with a social hour at 7 o’clock
and the business session will
start at 8.

Dr. Ira Slade, owner of
Greenlife Gardens, was the
guest speaker at the February
meeting of the Camellia Garden
Club.
He spoke on “Dual Purpose
Plants.” Dr. Slade displayed a
variety of hanging baskets and
pot plants.
The meeting was held at the
Griffin Country Club with Mrs.
Walter Bugg and Mrs. Louis
Goldstein was hostesses.
The speaker was introduced
by Mrs. Frank Ethridge,
program coordinator for the
month.
During the business session,
Mrs. Frank Ethridge,
president, presided. She an
nounced that the Federation
Garden Club luncheon will be
held March 18 at the Griffin
Country Club.

recent Federation Garden Club

round-up
in Pike
The Pike County Chamber of
Commerce is sponsoring a junk
car round-up during the month
of March. •
Any civic organization that
wishes to help in this round-up
may contact Larry Lynch in
Zebulon. The Chamber will pay
five dollars for each automobile
that is picked up.

silver jewelry
workshop class
The office of Community
Services at Gordon Junior
College will sponsor a one-day
silver jewelry workshop at the
Dovedown Center in Griffin on
Mar. 1.
Richard Fernandez will in
struct students from 1 to 3 p.m.,
in the techniques of cold forging
silver rings and earrings.
Fernandez, a silversmith, has
already instructed two silver
jewelry courses and is teaching
lost wax casting and drawing.
The class is limited to 10
people. To obtain registration

Church honored the retired

were present. Mrs. Ada Prince

the oldest member at age 83.
