Georgia baseball coach
Jim Whatley retiring
ATHENS, Ga. (UPI) - After
24 complete seasons as the
University of Georgia baseball
coach, Jim Whatley is retiring
July 1 to work with the Little
League program and boys’
baseball camps in the Athens
area.
“I have enjoyed every minute
of my coaching career —win,
lose or draw, and I want to
retire while I’m young enough
to do some other things I have
wanted to do,” said Whatley,
now in his 25th season as
Bulldogs’ baseball coach.
Whatley is second in seniority
on Georgia’s active coaching
staff only to track coach
Forrest Towns, who has been a

Finley loses one
on concessions
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -
Charles O. Finley, who has had
great success in baseball salary
arbitration hearings the past
few days, was overruled
Monday in a court battle with
his former concessionaire.
The 9th Circuit Court of
Appeals reversed a lower court
ruling that awarded the owner
of the three-time world cham
pion Oakland A’s $846,504 in
damages from Twin City
Sportservice Corp.
The appellate court, in
handing down the decision, said
Justice Tom C. Clark had
incorrectly defined the “rele
vant market” two years ago in
giving Finley $282,168 trebled
from Twin City Sportservice,
which held the concession
franchise for the A’s between
1954 and 1967 when they were

the weekend.
Tulara was accounting for his

his first win as an amature

“...The trial court erred in
treating Sportservice as a seller
of concession services to major
league baseball teams,” the
appellate decision said. “Such
services are sold to spectators
who directly and immediately
pay therefore —not to the
major league baseball teams....
“We must, therefore, remand
this case to the district court to
determine the scope of the
relative franchise market.”

Here’s the most important fact of all.
When you dial direct, you'll always save,

(The only time low direct-dial rates do not
apply is on operator-assisted calls such as

a third number.)
