Miss Blalock earlier had been
awarded $4,500 by a jury in her
antitrust suit against the
LPGA, which had suspended
the golfer from tournament
competition.
Moye based his award on the
money Miss Blalock would have
earned if she had won the
LPGA tournaments from which
she was suspended.
Miss Blalock’s attorneys had
asked for $200,000 in legal fees
but Moye said the fees awarded
“approximate those charged by
opposing counsel, providing a
check as to their reasona

TUY, S. VIETNAM—South Vietnamese refugees from Pleiku jampacked on a government
military truck with their belongings hanging on its sides as they arrived in Tuy Hoa after
fleeing from the central highlands where communists occupy most of the big provinces.

Commies take
another city
SAIGON (UPI) — Communist
forces captured a strategic city
on the outskirts of Da Nang
today and overran an entire
province northeast of Saigon.
Military sources said the
Communists captured Hoi An, a
city of 50,000 just 15 miles south
of Da Nang, leaving South
Vietnam’s second largest city
wide open to an attack from the
south.
The sources said the Commu
nists also seized the provincial

capital of Bao Loc, 96 miles
northeast of Saigon, bringing
all of Lam Dong province under
Viet Cong and North Viet
namese control.
The fall of Lam Dong left the
Communists in control of 12 of
South Vietnam’s 44 provinces
and more than half the
country’s territory.
The drive against Da Nang’s
southern approaches came as
the city’s 1.5 million residents
staged near-riots in desperate
attempts to get out.
U.S. officials in Saigon said
most Americans have been
withdrawn from Da Nang,
although Consul General Al
Francis and “about four or five
others” were still in the city.
Most residents of Hoi An had
fled to Da Nang before the
Communist attack, joining
about 1 million refugees added
to the port’s normal half-million
population.
Military sources said the
Communists captured Bao Loc
in two hours of fighting after an
intense artillery barrage.
Lam Dong, which has a
population of 76,693, is at the
southern edge of the embattled
Central Highlands.
In Da Nang, soldiers without
money for food clashed with
national police in a series of
gunbattles. The soldiers had
arrived penniless after retreat
ing from northern provinces
abandoned by the government.
A huge swarm of panicky
refugees mobbed the runway of
Danang’s airport today, forcing
the United States and South
Vietnam to halt evacuation
flights to sanctuaries in the
south.
Judge says
it was hate
killing
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (UPI)
— A Circuit Court judge called
the slaying of a white youth
last June “a premeditated,
racial hatred murder” and
sentenced two of four young
blacks convicted of the crime to
199 years each in prison.
Judge Hudson Olliff also
compared the so-called Black
Liberation Army (BLA) slaying
of Stephen A. Orlando with the
Nazi’s annihilation of the jews,
the results of which the judge
said he saw as a young combat
infantryman in World War 11.
Brad W. Evans, 20, and
Dwyne Crittendon, 21, received
the sentences Thursday. They
were convicted of second
degree murder after a three
week jury trial earlier this
month.
Still awaiting sentencing in
the 18-year-old youth’s murder
are Jacob John Dougan Jr., 27,
and Elwood Clark Barclay, 23.
The jury found them guilty of
first degree murder and recom
mended the death penalty for
Dougan and a life sentence
without parole for 25 years for
Barclay.
Crittendon and Dougan are
scheduled to go on trial April 14
for the second so-called BLA
slaying, the June 22 stabbing
death of white Steven Lamont
Roberts, 17, of Jacksonville.
Evans, also indicted in
Roberts’ death, changed his
plea to guilty of second degree
murder Thursday and received
a concurrent 199-year sentence
from Olliff. Evans also waived
his right to appeal his
convictions in both cases.
