Newton, Morrow
The Griffin track team ran
over Newton and Morrow
yesterday in a three-team meet
at Tara Stadium.
Griffin scored 107 points to
Newton’s 57. Morrow finished
with nine.
Griffin won 14 of 16 events,
running one-two in several.
Keith Mathis and Gary Hall
won two events each.

Baltimore Colts Tuesday an
nounced the signing of Temple
University quarterback Steve
Joachim who finished 1974 as
the total offense leader in
college football.
The 6-3,215-pounder, ran up a
total of 2,227 yards in 10 games
as a senior. The Colts made
Joachim their second choice in
the seventh round of the college
draft last January.

Randolph Vaughn was third in
the discus and Bobby Floyd was

Stuart Fitzhugh had a fourth
in the mile, Mac McCrary was
fourth in the high hurdles, Willie
Jordan was fourth in the discus,
Wayne Wilkins was fourth in the
high jump and Kenneth Coggins
was fourth in the triple jump.
Griffin returned to Tara
Stadium today for a meet with
Morrow and Fayette County.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (UPI) —
Golfing millionaires Billy Casp
er and Gary Player shared the
favorite’s role today at the
start of the Pensacola Open
because most of the tour
hotshots are on vacation.
Casper, plagued by injuries,
hasn’t won in about 20 months.
But the 43-year-old Californian,
winner of 50 tournaments and
more than $1.5 million during
his 20-year pro career, has had
three sixth-place finishes and a
seventh-place finish in his past
five outings.
Player has only been back in
the States three weeks after a
six-month absence and a 13th in
the Heritage Classic has been
his best showing since his
return. But the South African
star usually does very well here
