Foundation, the organization
that helped bring the children
here, and the U.S. State
Department agreed to let Mrs.
Tisdale and the Tressler
Lutheran Service Associates
handle the adoption of the
orphans.
Mrs. Tisdale, who earlier had
asked the foundation to act as
adoption agents for the chil
dren, balked when, as she
charged, the foundation “ha
rassed” her. She claimed the

foundation planned to move the
youngsters to their center and
to foster homes near Philadel
phia.
Buck officials claimed Mrs.
Tisdale was “uncooperative,”
saying they were responsible
for the children. When the State
Department Wednesday re
lieved them of that respon
sibility, the foundation agreed
to let Mrs. Tisdale and the
Tressler Lutheran Service As
sociates take responsibility for
the children.
“The Buck people said they
never really asked for responsi
bility over the children,”
Kilpatrick said.
Four non-orphans, who also
made the trip, were turned
over to their relatives here and
the procedures for 22 adoptions,
which began before the airlift,
continued, Kilpatrick added.
After Wednesday’s meeting
Ft. Benning officers confirmed
that they had released “seve
ral” orphans to their adoptive
parents and four children to
their part-Vietnamese families
in Columbus.
