scored 99% points yesterday in
a three-team track meet in
LaGrange.
The Grangers scored 57%
points and Morrow made five.
The Griffin victory was a
team effort. No one won more
than one event.
Coach Johnny Goodrum was
proud of some of the times
turned in by his runners as the
Region 6-AAA meet draws near.
Gary Hall has dominated the
120 high hurdles and 330 inter
mediate hurdles. He won the
highs yesterday with a 16 flat
but ran second to teammate

Girls 9 cage
rules now
same as boys 9
THOMASTON, Ga. (UPI) -
The Georgia High School
Association has changed the
rules for girls’ basketball so
they will be the same as for
boys, the association announced
today.
Bill Fordham, a spokesman
for the association, said the
change was adopted unani
mously by the 35-member
executive committee and will
go into effect with the 1975-76
season.
The girls’ game had been
played with six-member teams
and a two-division court. No
more than four players could
be at one end of the court at a
time with one player considered
a “rover” who could move
from one end to the other.
He said the changes would
also effect the length of games
with the girls adopting the
boys’ four eight-minute quar
the event.
Ronnie Bass tossed the shot
just over 43 feet eight inches.
That was his best toss in the
event. Gregg Head was second
with just over 43 feet two inches.
Griffin’s relay teams con
tinued to dominate region
competition. Griffin ran first
and second in the 440 and first
and third in the mile.
Johnny Wilder, Johnny
Roberts, Keith Mathis and
Willie Jordan won the 440.
Craig and Johnathan Nelms,
Gregg Head and Ralph Ray won
the mile relay.
Portia Vaughn and Karen
Jackson beat Morrow 6-1 in the
first set and the second set was
tied 1-1 when the rain came.
The match will resume with
the second set tied.

ters and three-minute overtime
periods. It had been seven
minutes for girls with two
minute overtime periods.
Fordham said the committee
didn’t expect much protest over
the change. He said there was
“a hue and cry when we went
to the ‘rover’ a few years ago”
but it had been accepted well.
Women’s teams in college
field five-member teams, he
said, noting that several girls
had been signed recently to
athletic grants-in-aid on the
basis of their basketball skills.
Fordham said there were
about 400 schools in Georgia
with girls’ teams.
Giants

in ‘Frisco
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -
The Giants will stay in San
Francisco—at least for this
year and apparently for many
more.
Owner Horace Stoneham told
a civic luncheon Tuesday that
rumors that the team is broke
or going bankrupt are not true.
“Our club will be in San
Francisco all year,” he said.
“We are drawing very well on
the road. With good weather,
we drew very well here Sunday
and we hope for more large
crowds. We have assets in real
estate. We are not going
bankrupt.”
Later General Manager Jerry
Donovan added, “Horace didn’t
mean only this year. We’re
staying.”
Keith Mathis won the 100 yard
dash with a 10 flat. Johnny
Wilder was second with a 10.1.
Tommy Joe Coleman won the
220 with a 22.1.
Johnathan Nelms won the 440
with a 51.1 and Ralph Ray was
second.
Randolph Vaughn won the
discus and Kent Head was
fourth.
Jim Dunaway was third in the
mile run and Tim Young was
fourth.
Gregg Head picked up a
second in the 880 and Ed Hays
was third.
Jim Dunaway was second in
the two mile event and Tim
Young was fourth.
