RUBBED WRONG WAY
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -
Richard Lawrence, 34, told
police here that a Los Angeles
massage parlor rubbed him the
wrong way. That led him to do
something that affected the
phone company the same way.
He has been phoning the
House of Seven. Erotic Gables
in Los Angeles repeatedly
every day for seven months to
argue about S3O he says he
wants back from the parlor.
But since he figured he was
out S3O already, he did not want
to put any more money into the
project. He hung on just long
enough to tell off the House of
Seven Erotic Gables and then
hang up as operators asked for
more change.
The phone company finally
notified police, who interrupted
Lawrence as he was calling the
massage parlor from a down
town phone booth. Police
booked him Monday for ob
scene calls, ‘phone fraud and
creating a nuisance.

Norsworthy opposes HCA managing local hospital
City Commissioner “Skeeter”
Norsworthy said he feels if
Hospital Corporation of
America takes over the
management of the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital, “it will be an
insult to the boards of city and
county commissioners.”
“These boards are charged
with appointing responsible
people to the authority. Its
members are fully capable of
running the hospital.
“Letting a private corpora
tion came in and manage the
hospital would be the same as
saying the authority is ‘no good
and not doing its job’ and that
the commissioners have ap

“I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t
see how a private corporation
can take over the management
of a tax-paid for facility,” he
added.
Norsworthy said he under
stands the corporation would be
responsible for personnel and
purchasing the supplies.
“I believe we can kiss the
authority, as we presently know
it, goodby if HCA takes over,”
he said.
Norsworthy said he has never
been a patient in any hospital

but he understands that
probably some of the services
could be improved. If they need
improving, why can’t the
authority use the same ex
pertise HCA would use and
improve things themselves? he
asked.
HCA has offered to manage
the hospital in a three-year
contract and would charge a
management fee of $200,000 for
the first year and $150,000 for
each of the following two years.
HCA would place the $200,000
in escrow to be returned to the
hospital if the agreement is not
fullfilled as provided in the
contract to both improve ser

money.
As Norsworthy sees it, the
patient will pay that bill. They
claim they can save that much,
but they have not said they
would not increase the rates. All
hospital operating costs are
paid for by the patients, he said.
Authority members have
been invited on an all-expense
paid trip to Martinsville, Va. to
look over an HCA hospital
there. They are scheduled to fly
in the corporation’s twin-engine
jet on May 8.
The committee to look into the
HCA proposal is co-chaired by
County Commissioner P. W.
Hamil and City Commissioner
Raymond Head.
In addition to Hamil, other
county appointees to the
authority are Mrs. Jo Pollard,
Dr. Tom Hunt and Larry
Ballard.
Besides Mr. Head, other city
appointees are Chairman O. M.
“Pete” Snider, Dick Hyatt, and
Jerry Savage.
Non-voting members of the
authority are Charles Wynne,
secretary, who was elected by
the authority, Dr. Lucian
Tatum, president of the medical
staff, and Dr. Kenneth
Reynolds, president-elect of the
medical staff.
