ATHENS (UPI) - Shipping
magnate Aristotle Onassis

his deathbed last March to say
he wanted her to marry a
family friend.
Four months after Onassis’
death left her with one of the
world’s largest fortunes, the 24-
year-old heiress has rejected
her father’s choice to marry
another man.
Family sources said she
would wed Alexandras An

ASSOCIATION OF GRIFFIN
WHAT IS AN INDIVIDUAL RETIREMENT ACCOUNT
(briefly referred to as IRA)?
It is an account authorized by the Employees Retirement Security Act (Federal) of 1974.
Under the Act Federal Savings and Loan Associations are authorized to act as Trustee for
contributors to such accounts.
WHY IS AN IRA SO IMPORTANT TO YOU ?
Because you pay no income tax on the part of your compensation invested with First
Federal under the IRA until withdrawal and no income tax on the interest earned on such
invested funds, until withdrawal.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ESTABLISH AN IRA?
Any individual under age 70% who received compensation for services rendered during a
taxable year and who was not a participant during any part of the year in a
(a) Qualified pension or profit sharing plan of his or her employer;
(b) A Keogh Plan; or
(c) A qualified annuity or Bond Purchase Plan.
HOW MUCH CAN AN INDIVIDUAL PUT IN
AN IRA EACH YEAR?
You can contribute up to the lesser of 15 percent of your compensation for services or SISOO
of such compensation each taxable year. The contribution or contributions must be made
during the taxable year. They need not be made all at one time.
HOW IS "COMPENSATION" FOR SERVICES
DEFINED FOR AN IRA?
Compensation is salaries, wages, professional fees, self-employment income and other
income from personal services. Income from property, dividends, interest and rent does not
qualify as compensation.
CAN A HUSBAND AND WIFE EACH GET THE TAX
DEDUCTION FOR HIS OR HER SEPARATE IRA?
Yes — to the extent of the lesser of 15 percent of his or her separate “compensation" or
$1500.00 of such compensation.
WHEN DO DISTRIBUTIONS FROM AN IRA COMMENCE?
Distributions, including accumulated interest, may be withdrawn as early as 59% years of
age but must commence not later than 70% years of age.
HOW ARE RETIREMENT FUNDS PAID?
You can take the entire amount in one lump sum or spread payments over a number of
years based on your life expectancy or the combined life expectancy of you and your spouse.
WHAT ARE TAX CONSEQUENCES ON A PREMATURE
WITHDRAWAL, i.e. ONE BEFORE ATTAINING AGE
59-7a OR BECOMING DISABLED OR DYING?
Such withdrawals are subject to ordinary income tax plus a penalty tax of 10 percent.
WHAT ARE TAX CONSEQUENCES ON DISTRIBUTION
OF RETIREMENT FUNDS AFTER 59-7a YEARS?
Ordinary income tax. The advantage to you is that on these distributions that are permitted
after 59%, you will probably be in a much lower tax bracket than before 59%.
ARE FUNDS IN AN IRA IN FIRST FEDERAL INSURED?
As is the case with other accounts in FIRST FEDERAL, IRA funds are insured by FSLIC to
the extent of $40,000.

Miss Onassis has been seen

Onassis recommended him as a

his death.

Goulandris.
“I’m tired of everyone trying

His father Stratis began

Family sources said Jacque

It was Miss Onassis’ second

Atlanta crime
shows decrease
ATLANTA (UPI) — Atlanta Public Safety
Commissioner A. Reginald Eaves said Monday cases of
homicide and rape were down significantly so far this
year as part of a “dramatic decrease” in the city’s crime.
Eaves released figures for the first six months of 1975
indicating a 27 per cent drop in homicides over the same
period last year. Rapes decreased 21 per cent, robberies
were down 3 per cent and auto thefts dropped 10 per cent.
“No other city of our size has shown the kind of decrease
that we have,” he said. “I think we are leading the way for
what may become a national trend.”
Energy standoff
WASHINGTON (UPI) — President Ford has vetoed
Congress’ latest energy plan and the lawmakers
apparently are getting ready to reject his, continuing a
stalemate that could force a sharp increase in gasoline
prices.
The immediate issue is Ford’s proposal to gradually
decontrol over a 30-month period the present $5.25 a barrel
price lid on 60 per cent of domestically produced oil. The
House is expected to reject that plan today.
