Veteran lefthander Steve Carlton tossed a three-hitter,
striking out eight batters to blank the Atlanta Braves 1-0
at Philadelphia last night.
The victory was the ninth in 16 decisions for Carlton.
The win coupled with Pittsburgh’s 1-0 loss to San Diego
moved the Phillies within four games of the Pirates in the
National League East.
Slugger Gred Luzinski scored the only run of the game
on a wild throw by catcher Vic Correll on an attempted
double play with two out in the ninth inning.

Atlanta Falcons' coach Marion Campbell says as far as
he is concerned it’s a new season. Running back Dave
Hampton and other Falcon veterans indicated yesterday
£ they agree.
Campbell, beginning his first full season as the Falcon
coach after last year’s disastrous 3-11 record, took his first
look at his veterans yesterday at the 3-11 Falcon’s
Greenville, S. C. training camp.
Hampton, bothered by injuries much of last season ran
well as did fullback Eddie Ray, who reported 13 pounds
under his 1974 playing weight.

The Georgia High School All-Star football and
basketball games will have some new rules this year.
Cagers will be allowed to dunk their lay-up shots while
gridders will be forbidden punts unless a team is inside its
30 yard line.
Coach Bobby Gruhn, president of the Georgia Coaches
Association says he hopes the football rules changes will
stimulate a lot of offense and scoring.
The South won last year’s basketball all-star game 99-90
with dunking allowed. This year, in addition to dunking
players will have a three-point field goal circle and there
•:j will be three officials refereeing the game.
