Expensive hazard
Not only are aerosol cans a possible threat to our environment
— they also push up the price of a product. Avoid both by buying
products in another form; liquids, roll-ons and creams are
available for a multitude of products. Spray bottles are available
for window cleaner and starch, for instance.

Timely use
If you buy in quantity and keep meats, for example, in the
freezer, mark them with the date you’ve bought them. Put the
new purchases at the back so you continually use the oldest.
— W.J., Franklin, Ind.
Lawn logic
If you have a power mower, don’t leave it idling for long
periods of time. Turn it off and restart it when you need it.
— T.D., Eau Claire, Wise.
Beach benefit
Make a beach tote by cutting old blouses into squares, sewing
together to the size you need and attaching wooden or plastic
handles. If you get really proficient dealing with squares of
fabric, think about making your own personalized quilt.

Tobacco growers
grumble louder
VALDOSTA, Ga. (UPI) — Tobacco farmers along the
Georgia-Florida flue-cured tobacco belt are grumbling
loudly about prices lower than they expected when the
sales season began, but threats of a boycott have so far
kept only a few growers out of the warehouses.
Tuesday’s auctions showed only slight price increases
of mostly $1 for top grades, with a few more declines than
gains because of the lower grade leaf offered in most
markets.
Sales totaled 4,419,094 pounds at an average price of
194.93 per hundred pounds — still far below the slls-6120
growers have set as their minimum demand to offset
increased farming costs.
The season’s average now stands at $87.66 for 38,941,916
pounds auctioned on the Georgia-Florida belt.
Unhappy farmers held protest meeting in Tifton
Monday night, resolving to boycott sales unless bids
reached sllß to $125 per hundred pounds. That would be
about 25 per cent above the federal support price for
various grades of leaf.
However, only a few growers kept their leaf off the
market Tuesday.
A season's high average price of $93.77 per
hundredweight was recorded on the belt Monday, with
4,057,368 pounds auctioned. That was $3.98 more than last
Thursday's closing average.
The USDA said 27 .9 per cent of Monday’a offerings went
to the Stabilization Corporation, the smallest total for any
sales day this yesr. Season receipts stand at 33.6 per cent.

CUMMING, Ga. (UPD -
Forsyth Dist. Atty. C. B.
Holcomb said Tuesday that the
Forsyth County Grand Jury will
investigate charges that county
deputies beat an accused
murderer last May.
Jack Howard Potts faces
murder charges in Forsyth

Fla., as well as kidnaping and
armed robbery counts in Cobb
County after a shooting spree
last May that resulted in the
death of two persons and
injuries to three. Potts was
wounded in a gun battle at a
Brooks County home.

"let the record show" he and
the prosecution were prejudi
ced, Hobgood lost his temper
Tuesday.
The 11th juror had been
chosen and defense attorney
Morris Dees asked Hobgood to
dismiss a juror who was leery
of circumstantial evidence.
Hobgood asked the juror if he
would consider such evidence if
directed by the court. The man
said he would.

Hobgood refused to dismiss
him. Dees complained he was
using a “double standard” and
had allowed such challenges by
the prosecution.
“You don’t put that in the
record anymore,” the 64-year
old jurist snapped. “If you do it
once more, you’U be out of this
court.”
Dees apologized and used a
peremptory challenge to dis
miss the man.
