Point blank

find fun
at home
By JOHN C. MOON
Copley News Service
Dear John:
My wife and I like to go out.
However, the price for food
and drink in restaurants is
outrageous.
And the cost of gasoline has
gone up and up.
What is a family to do?
Priced Out of Going Out
Dear Priced:
Join the crowd. Stay at
home.
life at home has more
meaning nowadays for more
people.
A recent survey taken by a
leading home and garden
magazine shows:
— 90 per cent of the people
are spending more time at
home.
— 48 per cent are doing
more entertaining at home.
— 48 per cent are learning
crafts at home — sewing,
woodwork, furniture repair,
plumbing, tending house
plants.
— 52 per cent of the homes
now are supported by two in
comes, meaning that, in addi
tion to the breadwinner work-
' ing, so is a wife, son, daugh
ter, grandfather or someone
else in the family.
The days of eating out, bar
* hopping and water spidering
about in an automobile are
just about over for a lot of
Americans. So seek a full,
’ joyful home life, instead of
the hollow happiness of the
merry-go-round of life out
side.
* Dear John:
Several times you have ad
vised those writing you to at
tend church to meet a better
' class of people.
I don’t mind going to
church, but I get tired of be
ing asked to work for the
church.
I often think churches were
designed to work hell out of
people before they went to
1 hell.
No Churchgoer
Dear No Churchgoer:
You are right about the
ministers and churches
working the very devil out of
a person.
However, I saw a sign at a
church, which read:
“Work for the Lord. The
pay isn’t much, but the re
tirement plan is out of this
‘ world.”
Dear John:
I am 23 years old and think
' I know where lam going in
life now.
I used to be a “king of the
hippies.”
My hair would get tangled
in my belt buckle, it was so
long. Now that I try to look
decent, I can’t get a decent
haircut in most barbershops.
Barbers try to give me a
hairdo, instead of a haircut.
I have changed. Why can’t
barbers change, too?
Unshorn
Dear Unshorn:
Most of the barbers are
young. They haven’t seen
many heads with decent hair
cuts on them.
Therefore, they don’t know
how to change.
I usually go into the shop
and ask the young, long
haired barber to make me
look like a narc.
TTien he makes my head
look like a dirty tennis ball.
