and antenna was removed from
his car while he was staying at
the Holiday Inn on the North

A pickup truck stolen
Saturday from the residence of
J. W. Landrum, 731 Sherwood
drive, was recovered later the
same day.
Police said the vehicle was
found around noon in Ellavilla
by lawman there.
Betty Jean Stokes, 861
Westbrooks avenue, told of
ficers her 10-speed bicycle was
stolen from the yard of her
residence.
Michael Goodman, 24, 304
Atkinson drive, was arrested
over the weekend for possessing
a small amount of suspected
marijuana.

Mrs. Cowart
Mrs. Eunice Brannen
Cowart, 87, of 59 Terracedale
Court, died Sunday afternoon at
the Living Center of Griffin
where she had been a patient for
five weeks.
A native of Stateboro, Mrs.
Cowart was the widow of Mr.
Millard C. Cowart, Sr. She had
made her home in Griffin for 35
years with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.
Emory Barron. Mrs. Cowart
was a member of the Stateboro
Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her daughter,
Mrs. J. Emory Barron, she is
survived by two sons, Percy L.
Cowart of Sawannee, Fla., and
M. C. Cowart, Jr., of Stateboro;
four brothers, Barney Brannen
of Millen, George Brannen,
Emory Brannen, both of
Register, Ga., and Alton
Brannen of Statesboro; four
sisters, Mrs. D. S. Gardner,
Mrs. R. F. Stainback, both of
Raleigh, N. C., Mrs. Letus
Perry of Winfield, Ala., and
Mrs. William Cunningham of
Waynesville, N. C.; four
grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.
The funeral will be held
Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock
in Haisten’s chapel. The Rev.
Lamar Cherry will officiate and
burial will be in Oak Hill
cemetery. Haisten Funeral
Home is in charge of plans.
Miss Pinson
Miss Cynthia Pinson, 24, of
Lawrenceville, died Saturday
afternoon in the Button
Gwinnett Hospital in Lawrence
ville.
Miss Pinson was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lance Pinson,
Sr., of Lawrenceville, formerly
of Griffin.
In addition to her parents, she
is survived by a brother, Lance
Pinson, Jr., of Lawrenceville;
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie McLean of Griffin and
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Pinson of
Griffin.
The funeral was conducted
this afternoon at 3 o’clock from
the Temple Baptist Church in
Lawrenceville. The Rev. Edgar
Raines officiated and burial
was in the Gwinett Memory
Gardens. Wages Funeral Home
of Lawrenceville was in charge
of plans.
Boys climb
Stone Mountain
Fourteen members of the
Griffin Boys’ Club made a trip
to Stone Mountain Saturday.
Ricky Lowery was in charge of
the group.
The highlight of the event was
climbing Stone Mountain. All 14
boys received an achievement
certificate for the climb.

Man
shot
in chest
Keith Cardell of Experiment
was shot in the left chest
Saturday when he went to the
door of a woman’s home.
Details of the shooting were
not available. Spalding County
Sheriff’s officials still are in
vestigating the incident.
Allen Green, 19, and Richard
Green, 18, both of Hickory circle
have been charged with
burglary. Merchandise they
were accused of taking was
recovered, according to
sheriff’s officials.
David Moore of Landsdown
drive was arrested and charged
with theft by receiving stolen
goods and violation of the
Georgia Controlled Substance
Act, according to Spalding
Sheriff’s officials.
Mr. Eppinger
Mr. Robert Frank Eppinger,
75, died Friday in Brawley,
Calif.
Mr. Eppinger was a native of
Pike County, son of the late
William Crawford Eppinger
and the late Anna Mae
Beckham Eppinger.
He is survived by a daughter,
Miss Clifford Eppinger of East
Point and a brother, William
Albert Eppinger of Carthage,
Tex.
The body arrived in Griffin
Sunday night and the funeral
will be conducted Tuesday
morning at 11 o’clock in
Haisten’s chapel. The Rev. W.
R. “Bob” Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in the East View
cemetery in Zebulon. Haisten
Funeral Home of Griffin is in
charge of plans.
Mr. Worrell
Mr. Redden Whitt Worrell of
647 Garrett street died Saturday
night at the Griffin-Spalding
Hospital.
Mr. Worrell was a native of
Colquitt County and had made
his home in Griffin for 29 years.
He was a member of the Em
manuel Tabernacle Holiness
Church and a retired employe of
Rushton Mill.
His survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Odella Arrington Worrell;
two daughters, Mrs. Billy
Mathis of Ray City, Ga., and
Mrs. Clarence Hall of Moultrie;
two sons, Albert Worrell of
Crawfordville, Fla., and Lacy
Worrell of Phenix City, Ala.;
one stepson, Douglas O’Neal of
Newnan; one stepdaughter,
Mrs. Delores Vaughn of
Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Wiley
Daughtry of Moultrie; a
brother, Wesley Worrell of
Moultrie; 17 grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
this afternoon at 2 o’clock in the
Emmanuel Tabernacle Holi
ness Church. The Rev. Hoyt
McGhee and the Rev. J. D.
Madaris officiated and burial
was in Griffin Memorial Gar
dens. McDonald Chapel was in
charge of plans.

Sunday night after suffering a
sudden seizure at his residence.
Mr. Walker was a native of
Dothan, Ala. He came to Griffin
from Valdosta about two years
ago to make his home. He at
tended the Faith Temple
Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Lillie Mae Maxwell Pirkle
Walker; three sons, Jack
Walker of Miami, Fla., Journey
Pirkle of Macon and Davis
Pirkle of Griffin; six daughters,
Mrs. Eldora Sutton of Miami,
Fla., Mrs. Montez Huff of
Albany, Mrs. Leon Crowder of
Griffin, Mrs. Lois Decker of San
Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Mary

Horan, both of Macon; a
brother, Vernon Walker of

The funeral will be conducted
Tuesday afternoon at 3:30
o’clock in the Faith Temple
Assembly of God Church. The
Rev. E. P. Pruett, the Rev. Earl
Crawford and the Rev. Jimmy
White will officiate. Burial will
be in Oak Hill cemetery. The
body will remain at Haisten
Funeral Home until carried to
the church 30 minutes prior to
the funeral hour. .
Mr. Byrd
Mr. Bob Byrd, formerly of
Griffin, died early Saturday
morning at the Warner Robins
Hospital.
His wife is the former Miss
Earline Bethune of Griffin. Mr.
Byrd was employed at Warner
Robins Air Base.
In addition to his wife, he is
survived by a brother, Jack
Byrd of Chattanooga, Tenn.;
mother and father-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Harvey Bethune of
Griffin.
The funeral was conducted
this morning at 11 o’clock in the
Christopher Smith Funeral
Home in Warner Robins. Burial
was in Warner Robins.

Mrs. Mary Hester has retired
from Crompton-Highland Mills
where she had been employed
since 1964. Mrs. Hester worked
in the carding department and
was employed as a slubber
tender at the time of her retire
ment. Mrs. Hester and her
husband, C. L. Hester, reside at
